Hillrend[edit]

Some past event split a huge mineral-rich hill. The town of just over 4,000 souls is nestled primarily within the sundered earth. Using the cliffs as a guardian from the prevailing winds from the East and the relative cool of subterranean living, Hillrend is as thriving a community as can be expected in these trying times. Utilizing subterranean farms with core-powered grow lights and deep wells dug hundreds of feet into the earth, the town is largely self-sufficient. Hillrend is always in the market for cores, but the relative wealth of Hillrend makes them a juicy target for would-be usurpers. They welcome trade but are generally untrusting of outsiders. The population is disparate, with most races present to some degree.

Hillrend is split into two factions. One is run by Mayor Kiara Hart, a disguised Rakshasa with the city government in her fist, and the other by the Godmother Idrinden, an elementalist of considerable power with wererat gangs in her employ.

Both faction heads have hired the party to deal with whatever supply problems have struck Bug-Watch and report back.

Bug-Watch & the Insect Fortress[edit]

But-Watch is located near a relatively stable hive of giant insects that are located within a several hundred-year-old abandoned fortress.

Under normal circumstances, Bug-Watch's inhabitants hunt the dangerous insects and export their dried meat and cured chitin. Recently, all but one of the human inhabitants has either died or fled, leaving Zeb the senile necromancer to man the outpost by his lonesome. Additionally, the caravans that would normally collect the goods have stopped arriving, although whether that's due to bandits or bugs is unknown.
