Common Pasture
Between and around the fields and crofts of the village is areas of common pasture. Herdsmen move sheep, pigs, goats, oxen and cattle about by a complicated traditional cycle. Fallow land, and recently harvested land, are also used to provide stubble for the livestock.
"Hurdles" of sticks, or wattle fencing, are used to keep the more sedate animals in place.
