Supporting Cast
The Sentinel
A strikingly beautiful woman, six feet tall, curvy and athletic and badass to the bone. The founder, coordinator and spiritual leader of the human resistance. Before the apocalypse, she was a scientist of some kind until her attempts to warn the world about the coming of the machines ruined her career; after that, she fell off the grid completely, dedicating her life to preparing for the End Of The World As We Know It. Now she roams the wastelands, inciting and organizing the rebellion against our new machine overlords. Most rebels have seen her once, maybe twice if they're lucky: she finds and recruits you, teaches you how to fight and survive, then moves on. How she learned about the invasion years before it happened is not known, and she does not discuss her past.
The Machines
All this information comes from the Sentinel's observations and the rebels' personal experience.
Slaves
Cybernetically modified humans with limited intelligence and no free will. They possess just enough initiative to obey commands and carry out their designated tasks without constant micromanaging. Some are grown in cloning vats, some converted from captured humans; both are destined for the recycling plants when their usefulness runs out, their cybernetic parts to be reclaimed and their organic parts rendered into nutrients for new clones.
Servants
Human traitors who retain their volition and intellect, with just enough modifications to ensure their loyalty to their new masters (although many have volunteered for more extensive augmentation). Capable of making independent decisions and giving commands, they often oversee massive slave hordes and are sometimes used for infiltrating the resistance.
Drones
The type of pure machine most often seen outside their colossal spire cities. The size of a small van and vaguely arachnid in design, they come variously outfitted with all kinds of equipment and weaponry, depending on their current mission. Although they are often seen leading slaves and servants, they don't seem to possess full sentience but rather function as relays or avatars for some kind of central intelligence.
The Setting
The world is an ashen wasteland under a burning sky, littered with the blackened bones of our cities. Human society is gone. Only small isolated handfuls of humans live free, sprinkled all over the globe where ever they can hide.
Machine Cities
These massive complexes tower above the wastes like city-sized skyscrapers made of gleaming metal, reaching up to the clouds and apparently quite deep into the ground. No living human of free mind has ever been inside one, much less returned to relate their experience.
Major Ruins
All major human cities are reduced to little more than nothing, their burnt steel skeletons sticking out of deserts turned to glass. Lesser population centers have also been destroyed, but most not as thoroughly eradicated, and some ruins still contain worthwhile salvage for the ambitious scavenger.
Resistance Vaults
Before the apocalypse, the Sentinel and her followers managed to set up a surprising number of secure, well hidden underground bunkers and strongholds and cram them full of weapons, supplies and equipment. They have remained sealed ever since, just waiting for rebels looking to gear up or shack down. She gives each resistance cell directions to a few, and also teaches them how to find and interpret the signs that mark the locations of others.
The System
Savage Worlds Explorer's Edition, plus the Super Powers Companion.
Character Creation
Characters start at Seasoned rank, with 20XP and four advances.
Standard power level - 10 Power Points to begin with, 5 more for each application of the Power Points Edge.
Inherent Bravery - You're fucking metal. All uses of the Guts skill are replaced by the Spirit attribute; don't bother buying the skill.
Inherent Power - You're so fucking metal, every PC gets the Arcane Background (Metal) Edge for free. It works exactly the same as Arcane Background (Super Powers) as presented in the Super Powers Companion, with one important exception: your powers can only be used for awesome.
No Unarmed Defenders - You're totally fucking metal, alright? There is no penalty for defending against armed attacks while unarmed.
Advancement
XP will be handed out (and bennies restored!) at the end of each episode, ie. at reasonable intervals when a suitable climax, cliffhanger or break in the action occurs. However, you can hoard or spend your advances how and when you wish, even in the middle of a fight.
House Rules
Katana - It's just another form of long sword: damage Str+d8, weight 8. No more metal than bastard swords and battleaxes. Ninja fanbois are welcome to cry their little black pajama-clad hearts out.
One-handed weapons in two hands - Using a one-handed weapon with two hands lowers the strength requirement by one step. So while it takes d8 Strength to properly wield that katana one-handed, an average person of d6 Strength can use it in two hands with no penalties (for d6+d8 damage).
Series Soundtrack
- Battle Beast - Armageddon Clan (Opening Sequence/Sentinel's Theme)
- Ozzy Osbourne - Bark at the Moon (Rex's Theme)
- Sabaton - Metal Crue (Michael's Theme)
- R.E.M. - Radio Free Europe (Tesla's Theme)
- Battle Beast - River of Blood (short edit) (Closing Credits)
