Arriving at Lake Biwa yesterday was quite a joy after a couple weeks on the roads and paths of the mountain highway. The open valley and huge lake was stunning. | |||
He could barely believe that it wasn’t the sea itself. | |||
He saw the ferry and carefully bathed this morning and combed his hair and arranged his yukata with the best green layer facing out. | |||
As he approached the landing he saw the yamabushi and had to pinch himself in disbelief. | |||
It was lucky indeed to encounter another familiar with the ways of the mountain spirits here on the plain. | |||
His stomach rumbled but he was smiling as he approached the ferryman on foot. Large pack with his ono and yumi protruding top and bottom swinging with his jaunty steps. | |||
Hiro is a well built and very healthy looking gamekeeper/ forester from the mountains of Nagano a couple weeks on foot north of here. He is a very poor and somewhat reserved young man in his late 20’s. He is however well read on history, Shugendo beliefs and medicine. Additionally, he is a very good navigator, skillful woodsman and hunter. | |||
