Make a Template - Template Generation Example
This example shows how to generate a character template. (See Game Design/Templates.) I am going to do "human," since many RPG settings may be able to use that template.
1. Dimensions and Modifiers - According to approximate data gathered from a very brief internet search, humans are around 75 kg and 1.7 meters tall. The humans have medium variability, 1 speed, 3 power, 5 toughness and 3 agility.
2. Abilities - Humans don't have any innate abilities or disabilities by default.
3. Natural Weapons and Armor - Humans have a primary (usually right-side) arm with a manual dexterity modifier of 0, a secondary arm with a dexterity modifier of -1, and a head & two legs with a manual dexterity modifier of -4. All of these natural weapons have a reach of 1 meter by default (this includes twisting and bending the torso when attacking.) All of these natural weapons are blunt.
4. Character Points (CP) - 3 power is worth 600 CP. 5 toughness is worth 500 CP. 1 speed 3 agility are both worth 0 CP. Medium variation is worth 300 CP. 1 m reach is worth 200 CP. Blunt sharpness is worth 0 CP. Multiple natural weapons adds 100 CP. Ambidextrous hands with 0 manual dexterity modifier is worth 0 CP. A -1 dexterity on the Human's second (usually left) arm is worth -100 CP. The total CP of our new human template is 1700 CP.
