The Unspoken Farewell[edit]

Corse last saw his eldest brother when he was only a boy, in the sacred grove of Herewar, in the city of Cendriane. He was playing under an ash tree there with a hand scythe and a bundle of reeds. From the hill, he saw his brother leaving through the city gates. He called out to him, but his brother either could not hear him or did not respond.

Ten years later, when only 16 years old, he vowed to find his brother. Before he left, he hacked down the aspen tree in a fit of anger. His mother, the Lady of the Hunt, discovered that he had cut down the sacred tree. She took and fashioned it into his staff for the journey. (magic staff +3)

Dragonskin[edit]

While traveling in the Turathi empire, Corse was impressed into service as a guide for the humans that were trying to find the secret encampments of the dragonborn in the swamps of Nor Bargeth. He lead his captors purposefully into an ambush there, then fled in the midst of the chaos. The arkhosians hunted him for a week through the swamp. Exhausted, he went to ground in a willow grove that was also the home of a dire boar. They fought in desperation for the hiding place while the dragonborn advanced. When they arrived, the boar was dead, and Corse was nearly so, gored on the boar's tusks.

He woke several hours later, lying in a tent next to the dead boar. The Arkhosians were so impressed with his valor and ability to navigate the swamp that they chose not kill him, and instead accepted his help in guiding their forces. To remember the event where he nearly died, and his fortunes changed, he made a suit of armor out of the boar. (Tusked Armor +3)

The Humility of Mariel[edit]

Corse was an excellent guide. He saved many dragonborn from the Turathi, but he made few friends; he was still restless for news of his brother, though his enmity with the tiefling-led nation kept him from leaving the fight. He grew haughty and angry, quick to wrath and prone to melancholy.

At a great feast deep in Nor Bargeth, the Arkhosian general Aktogog presented Corse with a marvelous gift, a magical cloak. The elf laughed at the gift as he took it, claiming he deserved the general's own coat since he owed his life and the life of everyone in the room to his guidance in the swamp. Aktagog stepped up on the banquet table smote Corse once with his mailed fist, and he could not rise. The assembled warriors laughed at the elf, most thinking it a ridiculous jest rather than a boast.

Corse refused to wear the cloak for weeks afterward, until he was nearly killed by a sniper's arrow in a cypress grove called Mariel. Since then he has always worn it; he also keeps his tongue. (cloak of displacement +2)
