When the Forces of Apocalypse invaded Keystone City, Gail Blakely, a minor adept who was used and dumped by a drunken John Constantine in a very bad 6 month relationship, kept to herself and used her small magics to protect her and the people that she loved.

In the ruins of Keystone, she discovered the ruined body of Detective Chimp, the last survivor of the Shadowpact. He carried something of infinite, precious value - the Helmet of Nabu. Inside the helmet was the dark opal of Mordru, his power horrific power contained by the energies of the Lord of Order.

As she took care of Detective Chimp in the ruined bar that was her sanctum and small place of power, she kept both of the objects inside of a circle warded with her blood and tears.

"Release me!" said Mordru, "And I will grant you the power to cause untold suffering to your enemies!"

"Release me!" said Nabu. "And we will cleanse the world of evil!"

Gail, having actually been well taught by Constantine, wagged her finger. "Ohhh, no. You two jokers are going to do things my way. There's going to be reconcilement and harmony. Neither of you are good - in both of your ways you're hella evil. This is how it's going to work."

Gail made her offering of her very soul to the Endless, offering her name, everything she was, to negate and unwrite these beings from the world, because of the havoc they had caused. In an initiation, each of the Endless judged Gail.

Pretty damned selfless, said desire. But she wants what she wants fiercely.

Pretty damned final, said death, but she wants life to go one.

Pretty damned imaginative, said dream, this is a fantasy I can get behind.

The others nodded their asset.

Dream said, "They will be your teachers. You will transform from something, into something else. That is the way with all magic. What you turn into is up to you. This is the last time you will see us - our part in this story is done."

And, thus, wearing over her eyes a golden silk cloth, the form of Nabu, she sees truth and mercy. With the black opal of Mordru on her brow, she tastes terror and passion. From the chaos, she derives power, from order, she gives it form, using symbols and magic that have not been seen since Atlantis and the time of Arion. Neither of Order or Chaos, she instead serves existence, balancing chaos and order, using only her own conscience as a guide, seeking to keep magic in its proper place in the world, during this, the 10th Age of Magic. Not being Homo Magi, Gail is a normal human whose transcending soul has made the leap into magic.

Her best pal Detective Chimp, now fairly crippled, runs the Harrow's End bar and keeps her sane, as she protects this ruined world from magical threats, carrying out the mandate of Dr Fate. Both Mordru and Nabu are in concordance, since, to quote Mordru, "I can't rule a universe if it's destroyed." The two entities and Gail work in an uneasy alliance, as she learns from them spells and ancient powers. She works in secret, but rogue magicians fear the half-dark, blindfolded face of Mistress Fate.

So far, the blindfold of truth and the half face of madness are simply symbolic, only manifesting at the higher levels of spellcasting. However, who knows what may happens as Gail delves deeper into the mysteries of Order and Chaos?

Appearance - Gail, when calling upon the symbolic and eternal power of her two teachers, draws from within herself eternal order and chaos. When working magic a golden blindfold appears around her eyes, glowing with the burning white eyes of Fate. Also, half of her face becomes shaded, resembling Mordru. Her magic either starkly favors chaos or order, unless both are called upon (the dissipation of Law and Chaos, in which golden sigils outlined in violet shadow destroy both white and black magicks).
