The Water Meadow[edit]
This area of flat ground, bordering the Ive northeast of town, is fertile low-lying land. Each spring, it is lightly flooded (to a depth of a few inches); in summer, a heavy crop of hay is produced. The villagers cut this in the fall, to be used as fodder during the winter.
The banks of the Ive bordering this meadow are heavily covered in reeds. These are harvested in the winter (after they have died) by the thatcher.
