Description: Medium-size house built in the middle of a block, set back from the road.
Tucked inside - literally - a low-income, mixed-ethnic community, Vidya benefits from a strong support network in the form of her neighbors, who rather like having someone willing to help keep them healthy, scare off low-end gangbangers, and share a library's worth of educational materials for their kids. Her house is stuffed with books and books-on-chip, making the useful space inside much smaller than it seems.

Contacts:
L1 - Miko Meg, Talismonger, Redmond Barrens
Megan is anglo mage who grew up consuming castoff Japanese media and became convinced that her budding magic abilities were a calling by the under-represented local kami of the barrens. Despite an outlook that would make some facepalm, she defends her little talismongery and rooftop shrine in the barrens with determination. The Family mage Annie apprenticed under would often visit her for cheap but functional disposable foci, and the amusement value of taunting the Yaks by using Japan-derived charms. The short, curvy norm with an adopted ork daughter is a pillar of her shambles of a local community, an outlook that Vidya has taken to heart.

L1 - Eddie Vitale, Mafia Mage-Lieutenant, Renton
Eddie is a dwarf with a taste for fine suits, hats that hide away his dark, curly hair, and burning Yakuza footsoldiers to ash. He's usually a quiet man, but will go off on long rants if his height is mentioned. Vidya apprenticed to him, and he's still her main contact within the Mafia.

L2 - Gillian Higurashi, "Investigative Reporter", Downtown
Gillian is an investigative reporter for MCT multimedia - that is, a corporate spy in plain sight. While her exposés always target MCT's corporate rivals, she's a wealth of other info, from when valuable, targetable shipments are arriving on the dock to blackmail-worthy boardroom gossip. The leggy, raven-haired elf and Annie go back a fair ways, and she gets the 'friend's discount'. Anyone who asks why gets told that the information is expensive, and the sim recordings beyond their budget.

L1 - Inez, Street Doc, Bellevue
Inez mostly does cosmetic and concealed cyber-work on high-end runners and the lower rungs of high society, but is also confident enough to regularly put mages under the knife when they need invasive treatment. She has the skill to back it up, once you get past the slightly mad gleam in her eye and the way the blood on her gloves contrasts with her silver-blonde hair, grey eyes, and silvered sterile bodygloves.

L1 - Ziggy Starscream, Decker, Renton
Ziggy is the result of being the latch-key kid of far-too-busy tech-worker wageslaves with too many antiques from the 1980s. While very odd , he's also very competent, and is the source of many of the harder-to-get electronic texts in Vidya's possession. Actually visiting the tall, glam-haired, svelte elf in his Renton warehouse hideaway should include at least one scene of him rocking out like David Bowie - or at least, if David Bowie were stuck in the animated Transformers movie.

L2 - Sangita, Community Leader, Renton
Sangita is the unofficial leader among the families living on Annie's block, who resolves problems and leads them in resisting local gang pressure. He was initially skeptical of the mage moving into the house in the center. Once the witch proved useful in knocking the local gangbangers on their ass, along with making her library of educational materials available to the local children, he welcomed her as a new pillar of the community. The tall, rock-hard troll is usually gruff to outsiders, but warm to community insiders.
Background
Amati Carson grew up in the Redmond barrens, with all the 'challenges' that typically entails. Desperate for an option other than joining a gang or other, less savory professions, she volunteered to help out her uncle, a small-time decker who worked on keeping pirated Matrix access open in the Barrens and enabling various Matrix crimes, mostly for the Mafia. She served as a mule for attack worms keeping the backdoors open, sneaking into public libraries near the Barrens' border with Bellevue to deliver them. While she was waiting for the programs to do their work so she could leave, she started taking advantage of the educational programs in the library terminals, quickly learning to read and then consuming more information ravenously.
Once she started noticing strange things happening around her, she dived into information on magic, eventually focusing in on information from the Indian side of her heritage. This got her noticed-ironically-when she cast a simple Invisibility spell to hide from a Mafia grunt (carrying job requests to pass to her uncle) who had surprised her. He hooked her up with a Hermetic Mafiosi, and she started formal apprenticeship, helping him carry out hits and 'aggressive' negotiations. Thanks to Marcus' influence (and a hefty payoff), she was able to go on to freelance work rather than join the Family, though she's still done semi-frequent work for them.
Now that Amati - who runs under the name Vidya, which is sanskrit for Knowledge - is off on her own, she's settled into an image of a precise, professional mage able to sling spells discreetly or overtly, who can get by in high society (especially underworld high society). She's taken residence in a run-down part of Renton and offers her services and personal library to the local community, which both helps her feel better about being an occasional hit-mage and provides her with a strong local support network.
