Robert was born in England in 1895, roughly twenty years before the Great War would sweep the glove. His family was heavily invested into the wolf blood and he was raised knowing he'd have a part to play, especially as rising international tension reflected onto the spirit scape and kept the Uratha busy. 1914 bought two things. Somehow, someone learnt his true nature, a person Robert still hasn't managed to identify.
