Before Episode One
Timeline: The year is 2525. Seven years have passed since Malcolm Reynolds and the crew of the Serenity exposed Alliance culpability in creating reavers in the course of trying to make a more docile and manageable populous.
And though events saw to the annihilation of much of the reaver population in the verse, it also levied a not inconsiderable blow against the almighty Alliance Navy.
Now, amidst overwhelming disapproval for the Alliance throughout the verse, rumors of uprising abound, and talk of secession is whispered in many a disreputable dive bar and watering hole across the black.
[Unification War: 2506-2511]
Trigger Event: It started on Greenleaf. Across the planet, in a single synchronized hour, the populous rose up against Alliance authorities and quietly removed them from power.
Opening Scene: Throughout the border worlds and across the rim, the name Greenleaf has become a rallying cry, though no one has duplicated the feat that occurred there. But rallying cries don't pay the bills, and rumors of a second war don't keep a ship in the black. So, the crew is en route to Jiangyin. The job is rescue and retrieval at a collapsed mine. The miners trapped inside are low on hope and short on time.
Jiangyin lies in close proximity to Greenleaf and boasts a particularly strong Alliance presence. Needless to say, the political situation there is tense.
