Kadefjora: A Fief in the West Kolvir Range
Geography and Layout
- Location: Kadefjora lies in the West Kolvir Range', a rugged, forested region just south of the Great Forest of Arden. The fief is nestled in a small river valley, surrounded by dense woodlands and rolling hills.
- River: The Kadefjora Stream flows through the heart of the fief, feeding northeast into the West Kolvir River, a major waterway in the kingdom.
- Terrain: Thick forests dominate the landscape, with clearings for hamlets and pastures. The soil is fertile but underutilized, and the terrain is dotted with ancient stone ruins and moss-covered boulders.
The Manor Keep
- Name: Silvana's Keep (rename after its new noblewoman).
- Condition: The keep is a small, weathered stone structure with a single tower and a crumbling outer wall. It was long abandoned and overgrown with ivy and other vine plants, including Yal Grape.
- Features:
- A central hall with a large hearth.
- A modest chapel dedicated to a local nature deity.
- A hidden cellar with remnants of the previous occupants (perhaps old maps, journals, or artifacts).
- A small garden where Silvana grows herbs and medicinal plants.
Hamlets and Inhabitants
- Population: Approximately 200-300 people spread across several small hamlets.
- Lifestyle: The people live a subsistence lifestyle, relying on farming, livestock, and foraging. They are hardy and self-sufficient but wary of outsiders.
- Hamlets:
Briarwood: ![]() The largest hamlet, known for its skilled woodworkers and hunters.
|
Mossford:![]() A riverside hamlet with a small mill and fishing community.
|
Hearthglen: ![]() A farming hamlet with pastures for sheep and goats.
|
Elderbrook: ![]() A secluded hamlet near the forest edge, known for its herbalists and healers.
|

Interactions Between Hamlet
- Trade: The hamlets rely on each other for resources. Briarwood provides wood and tools, Mossford supplies fish and milled grain, Hearthglen offers wool and cheese, and Elderbrook contributes herbs and medicine.
- Defense: The hamlets band together to protect against malevolent fey and bandits. They share information and resources to strengthen their defenses.
- Fey Diplomacy: Each hamlet has its own approach to dealing with the fey, ranging from cooperation (Briarwood and Elderbrook) to caution (Mossford and Hearthglen).
- The new hamlet of Plumhallow built a ferry that greatly facilitates inter hamlet trade. Plumhallow charges for transport with goods.
Fey Creatures
The forests and streams of Kadefjora are home to several types of peaceful or benevolent fey creatures:
- Dryads: Guardians of the ancient trees, often seen dancing in moonlit clearings.
- Pixies: Mischievous but kind-hearted, they help tend to the wildflowers and crops.
- Naiads: Water spirits who inhabit the Kadefjora Stream, ensuring its purity.
- Brownies: Small, industrious fey who secretly assist the villagers with chores.
- Will-o’-Wisps: Guiding lights that help lost travelers find their way.
Economy and Resources
- Agriculture: Subsistence farming of barley, rye, and root vegetables. Small orchards of apples and plums.
- Livestock: Sheep, goats, and a few dairy cows.
- Forest Resources: Timber, wild game, and herbs (used for medicine and trade).
- Trade: Limited trade with nearby fiefs, primarily in wool, timber, and herbs.
Challenges and Opportunities
- Undertended Land: The fief has been neglected for decades, and much of its potential is untapped. Silvana must decide how to allocate resources for restoration.
- Fey Relations: The fey creatures are peaceful but wary of humans. Silvana could gain their trust and unlock their assistance.
- Ruins and Secrets: The forests hide ancient ruins and forgotten lore, which could hold valuable knowledge or dangers.
- Bandits or Beasts: The remote location makes Kadefjora vulnerable to bandits or forest predators.
Silvana: The New Noblewoman
- Background: Silvana is a young noblewoman, recently granted Kadefjora as a reward for her family’s service to the crown. She is determined to prove herself as a capable ruler.
- Personality: Compassionate, resourceful, and curious. She has a deep respect for nature and a fascination with the fey.
- Goals:
- Restore the keep and improve the lives of her people.
- Establish trade routes to boost the fief’s economy.
- Uncover the secrets of the forest and its fey inhabitants.
