Mano a Mano 2009

  • Search the complete system for outdated terms (defense roll, roll against success, etc.)
  • Make sure we don't have any rules suggesting that experience will be on the character sheet.
  • Does the 20 CP for not having limited shots apply to natural weapons?

Compact Characters

Some games will have some characters who only need a little bit of information instead of full character sheets:

  • stock villains and monsters which only need combat stats and sometimes a few special qualities or abilities.
  • battle-on-a-page where two facing pages of an RPG book contain everything a player or GM needs to play one side (the "NPC" side) of a battle.
  • book-of-beasties which contains dozens of creatures which need to be playable. Most of these creatures won't have equipment.
  • a "how to" format for beginning players, explaining how to do basic actions, what dice to roll, etc.
  • "collectible characters" (action figures, miniatures, cards or comic books about characters) with a little stat section, possibly a "full" mano a mano character as well as "how to" stats or stats for a simpler game like minimam.

Random Damage Variant

Power or Damage Roll, Whichever is Less

For each successful attack roll the smallest die or combination of dice whose maximum total is equal to or greater than the attack power. Depending on the dice available you could use a 4-sided die for 1, 2, 3 or 4 power, a 6-sided die for 5 or 6 power, an 8-sided die for 7 or 8 power, a 10-sided die for 9 or 10 power, a 12-sided die for 11 or 12 power, a 20-sided die for 13 to 20 power, two 20-sided dice for 21 to 40 power and three 20-sided dice for 41 to 60 power. The damage and stun caused by the attack is the roll or the attack power, whichever is less.

2-4 1d4 or your power, whichever is less
5-6 1d6 or your power, whichever is less
7-8 1d8 or your power, whichever is less
9-10 1d10 or your power, whichever is less
11-12 1d12 or your power, whichever is less
13-20 1d20 or your power, whichever is less
21-40 2d20 or your power, whichever is less
41-60 3d20 or your power, whichever is less

Damage based on Attack Roll

If the attack roll is 12 or less before adding modifiers, the attack has half power.

If the attack roll is automatically successful, the attack gets an extra half power.

Examples:

If I do a half power attack and roll...

  • ...1-12, the attack still has half power.
  • ...13-15 on 3d6, 13-18 on 2d10 or 13-19 on 1d20, the attack has normal power (half power for this attack.)
  • ...16-18 on 3d6, 19-20 on 2d10 or 20 on 1d20, the attack power is 2 × half power

If I do a full power attack and roll...

  • ...1-12, the attack does only half power.
  • ...13-15 on 3d6, 13-18 on 2d10 or 13-19 on 1d20, the attack has normal power (full power for this attack.)
  • ...16-18 on 3d6, 19-20 on 2d10 or 20 on 1d20, the attack power is full power plus half power

Editing Character Sheet

If you change the character sheet format when editing any of the following, you must update the others:

Be sure you know which character sheet you are updating:

  • The template creation example includes both the blank character sheet and the example template.
  • The character creation example includes both the example template and the example character sheet.
