Session Two
The characters dust themselves off after their confrontation at the tavern. Xalgor, unwilling to commit resources to chase the dangerous trio, decides to return to the tavern and ask some questions. The characters also ask some questions and find out that the trio of adventurers were spending their new found wealth that they acquired from the infamous Gorge. The large collections of canyons is known for the lethal array of creatures that call it home.
Not having horses of their own, Durin pulls a few strings with his adoptive father, Xalgor, and gets permission to lead a mounted reconnaissance team to the area, though it requires Koresh to actually find some willing guardsmen to accompany them. After gathering some supplies they begin the half day trek.
The trip is quiet until they spot a scout from the castle. While chatting with him they spot a griffon in the sky and run for cover. Fortunately they are not spotted though they do lose some valuable time for their journey. Indeed the guards that they brought along to return the horses back to the castle before the gates closed have to leave our heroes a half of a day's walk from the Gorge.
Proceeding on foot, Tolen the Wizard realizes that they are now on the site of the final battle of the most recent orcish war. Not only is this place known to be haunted by undead, but there might also be war trophies left behind. With only a few hours of daylight remaining, they begin a search.
Through careful work, they obstacles and potential danger and come upon a small copse of trees with a campfire smoke trail, indicating humanoid activity. Curious, they sneak up and find an armored guard and a robed figure cooking. When the sneaking party is detected, Koresh attempts to baffle the pair with a quickly hatched ruse. He starts running tangential to the camp yelling "Undead are chasing me! Help!" Everyone is befuddled and combat breaks out. The robed figure turns out to be a powerful necromancer and summons some skeletons to aid him and his Skeleton Troll Brute who was hiding in the wagon.
DM: I'll leave more detail on this session to the players.
