Hindrances

Can't Swim - Minor - Stick is fairly lean and dense and floats in much the same way a bowling ball doesn't. He avoids water like the plague.

Mild Mannered - Minor - A trained fighter wouldn't mistake Stick for anything other than the same, but the average jane just can't get past his cute monkey face and swishing tail. Folk typically just think him harmless.

Curious - Major - Stick is insatiably curious about the world around him and everything in it. This often leads to poor choices in the moment.

Bio

Stick had been somebody's pet. Somebody's exotic, illegal pet, he would learn later, after the change. She called him Stick because he would climb everything and it looked like he could 'stick' to any surface. He knew all of that because he went back to talk to her...after...and she had told him. Her name was Lacy.

He had had everything: the run of a fun apartment, toys, a kitten (well, turns out Lacy said the kitten was never his), good food, a warm place to sleep. Everything

Then one hot day Lacy had left the window that led to the fire escape open when she went to work, so of course, Stick went exploring. In the apartment he always climbed up things, but outside all the excitement seemed to be down, so down to the streets of Mirage City he descended.

At first the streets and the sights and the dogs and the people were overwhelmingly intoxicating, but as the day wore on and darkness fell above only to be banished by harsh artificial lights below, Stick sought shelter in a lovely comfy dumpster someone had left open.

He had fallen asleep to the harsh and constant roar of the city.

To this day, he didn't know what had been thrown in that dumpster, but he had woken covered in a wriggly grey sludge that burned his fur.

Other than being lost and violently ill, Stick didn't remember much of the days that followed. His body had twisted and he had grown and it had hurt. Everything hurt.

He had done the math later. Math was something he could do now. It had been three days, and when he finally came to himself he was changed in more ways than the obvious. He could always jump and climb before, but he could do those things so much more now. More in every sense.

He wandered the city in the dark or hunched under stolen laundry and he heard people talk, but the words now held more meaning than just tone. At first he didn't realize there was more than one language slipping past his ears. Polish, English, Spanish, Puerto Rican, German, Russian, English - with just a little exposure, he could speak them all.

Eventually, he found his way back to the high apartment on Gwendoline street. Kitty was happy to see him. When Lacy got home, she freaked out a little. But eventually she talked to him. It was a good talk, if a little humiliating. Lacy was a little too fond of his baby stories.

He still went back every now and then, to talk and hang out and to see kitty, but he was no one's pet now and staying there felt weird.
