Scalgard has few races available as player characters compared to other d20 game worlds. The brutal nature of the world disadvantages some of the "softer" races, and the smallness of the geography makes having other races take their place a difficult proposition. The few available races are listed below.

Many races have a bonus or lost Available Class; they have a special affinity for or antipathy with that class. Classes noted "+" are always available and classes noted "-" are never available, no matter what nation the character hails from.

Aelfin

  • +2 Charisma, -2 Wisdom: Aelfin are touched by the otherworlds that gave them birth and this comes across clearly in the way they carry themselves and in their strength of spirit. However, the constant whisperings of the Dream Realms can leave them somewhat distracted towards events on the mortal plane.
  • Medium-size: As Medium-size creatures, the aelfin have no special bonuses or penalties due to their size.
  • Aelfin base speed is 30 feet.
  • Aelfin receive a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against Illusion and Enchantment spells or effects.
  • Low-light vision
  • Greymare: Their racial memory and connection to the Ethereal Dream Realm gives Aelfin a wealth of knowledge on which to draw. Aelfin have the Bardic Knowledge ability as if they were Bards of one half their character level. If they are in fact Bards, their levels stack for calculation purposes.
  • Favored Class: Sorcerer
  • Available Classes: +Sorcerer

Dwarves

  • Dwarves in Scalgard have all of the same abilities as dwarves in the SRD, except as follows:
    • Dwarves receive a +1 racial bonus on attack rolls against fir bolg, instead of against orcs and goblinoids.
    • Dwarves receive a +4 dodge bonus to Armor Class against monsters of the fey type, instead of the giant type. Any time a creature loses its Dexterity bonus (if any) to Armor Class, such as when it’s caught flat-footed, it loses its dodge bonus, too.
  • Available Classes: -Wizard

Half-orcs

  • Half-orcs in Scalgard are, statistically, identical to the half-orcs found in the PHB
  • Available Classes: +Berserker, -Druid

Humans

  • Humans in Scalgard are, statistically, identical to the humans found in the PHB.
