Oscar Lawson, Earl of Earthquakes

Code of the Light

Design: A cluster of four blossoms, arranged helically, with petals grey in descending quantity from six to three with black thorns to match.

A: 1 5mp

D: 1 5mp

R: 2 5mp

S: 4 5mp

Gifts:

-Perfect Timing 2 - a side-effect of the necessity of a perfect schedule.

-Sovereign's Gift 3 - Loathe to tamper with the greater aspects of the Estate of Earthquakes, Oscar's power is concentrated on subtler manipulations

Rrestrictions:

-Ceremonial - a traditional creature, Oscar attends or participates in events within and without the Chancel, notably disaster memorials

-Revelatory Trait - when the Teacher of Tremors walks, the ground beneath his feet shudders with joy at his passing.

Appearing most often as an unassuming gentleman of indeterminate upper-middle age, the Earl of Earthquakes, by the way, it's a title on which he insists, is a serious-minded, almost practical Noble accustomed to his own importance as the primary architect of the growth and change of Earth itself. The direct descendant of the seizures and spasms of Creation itself, a lineage that can be seen still in his gaze.

Originally the most violent and unpredictable aspect of his Imperator before the betrayal and the Summoning, the Great Wounding and Reemergence with the Wildlord paradoxically reformed Earthquakes from the foot-pounding power of earthly destruction into the reserved, almost austere personage of Oscar.

Bonds:

5 The all-important duty and function of his Estate

4 The impact of his Estate on humanity and it's ongoing remembrance

4 Harmony with his Familia Celestis

2 The perseverance of the community of San Francisco

2 The infrequent letters of reply from Solufra, Marchessa of Wildfires

2 The easy friendship with Hideo, Tsunami's Regal.

1 Ongoing research in the Earth Sciences

Anchors:

Reginald (Reggie) Compton (hate)

Schoolmate and rival through high school and university, following the earth sciences track, Reggie loved to get the better of Oscar, including ending up with the flower of Oscar's eye, one Madeleine Stephens due to his enNoblement and reluctance to involve her in the greater machinations of Creation. After the abusive marriage was over, Reggie was fair game for Investment and is useful to Oscar's cause as a noted seismic and geologic consultant to local agencies and companies, undermining advances in eathquake-related technologies and policies.

Charlie Frost (love)

An urchin of 14 years, Charlie struck Oscar as a younger version of himself. Wandering lost in Chinatown, the Noble bought the lad a bowl of noodles and listened to his story. He seemed perfectly happy having lost his family during their day trip to the City and demonstrated a talent for sketching on the paper tablecloth. Oscar offered the boy a new life of a sort, using his talent as the basis of his new vocation as a savant predicting natural disasters with cryptic drawings often with the help of mind-altering substances. His miraculous talent is just starting to catch people's attention.

Angeline Lawson (hate)

The half-niece of Oscar by the youngest son of Andrew Lawson's first marriage, Angie represents to Oscar the possibility that truely soulless people exist in the world. Being related to her only makes it worse. She grew up having no use at all for her parents or their attempts to connect with her. Her great talent was in being the worst child a set of parents could ask for. Runaway, drop-out, drug use, stealing, abusive, the poster child for dysfunction. Her indifference to her own mother's suicide was the last straw to Oscar's sensibilities. Due to his half-brother's despondancy and his destroyed family, Oscar agreed to 'take her on' and now keeps her busy as his assistant/secretary/clerk. Angie is approaching her eighteenth birthday. The Noble was surprised, then horrified after the Investment when he did not find some malicious demon residing in her spirit.

Goals:

-To repay the Betrayers to his Lord in kind.

-The subversion of technologies developed to lessen the impact of earthquakes

Other Notes:

re-read the recruit thread and ran across your design around a recently enChanceled realm and recently emPowered Nobles. I was operating under a different notion with Earthquakes, that of an older Noble that's been around the block. A subtle re-imagining is forthcoming, likely centered around the son of noted local geologist Andrew Lawson who wrote the original report of the 1906 quake for the USGS. A bit easy, I know, but I think it would give him nice roots.

So, are we going with the big quake as the enChancelement event, or something more recent?

If enChancelement is in '06, then Andrew could have been the prior Power of Earthquakes and unwillingly passed his Nobility to his youngest son right before his death in '52.

If more recent, Oscar could have found his way to the Chancel and his Nobility by figuring out the essential pattern of the Estate of Earthquakes in his father's works, being a naturally (or unnaturally) gifted scientist in his own right.
