Geography

Chinatown – North of the Velvet District, Chinatown includes Beijing Park, which includes a copy of the Opera House from the Forbidden City. Chinese operas are performed there in the summer. There is also a large Japanese Garden and one of the most beautiful Buddhist Temples in the States.

Velvet District – Just North of the Docks in the Warehouse District, this is one of the seedier parts of town. It is full of strip clubs, bars, and a couple of brothels. The past three mayors have sworn to clean it up, but no one has succeeded so far.

Downtown – The heart of Harbor City, this neighborhood includes, City Hall, Pioneer Park, the main branch of the Library, The Court House, and the HQ of Goliath Electronics. West of downtown is a large strip of beach owned by the city that has no formal name. It has many nicknames, many of them are not fit for polite company. Wilbur E Smith Stadium – The sports stadium is south of Downtown It was named after one of the founders of Harbor City. It is the home stadium for the Harbor City Seahorses, a baseball team. Next to the stadium is the GE Convention Center which is named after the company of the largest contributor to its construction a decade ago..

Hill Royale – Both new money and old live in this hilltop neighborhood. Prominent mansions include the home of Steven Rook, and the Hillsbury Estate. The hill is full of huge houses with beautiful grounds.

Harbor City Community College – The city doesn’t have a University, but it does have HCCC. It is one of the top schools in the country in the field of electronics. Many a techie has started his college career and HCCC and then gone on to MIT and other prestigious schools. Famous Graduates include Mr. Rook CEO of Goliath Electronics and Theodor Knox CEO of Automatons Inc.

Southbeach Mall and Amusement Park – South of Hill Royale on the coast is a recently completed mall next to one of the West Coast’s oldest amusement Parks. The main feature of the park is an old fashioned wooden roller coaster called the Whirlwind.
