Background

Cousin to the rather infamous Lord Captain Laertes Olivares, Wilberforce was raised in the halls of power. Unlike his cousin, however, he had no propensity or aptitude for dangerous endeavours. His mind was focused on three things: drink, money, and women. He spent much of his life moving from bar to bar on a hundred different worlds, making friends but never enemies. His spree of debauchery was brought to an abrupt end by his formidable Aunt Abigale, matron of the civilian side of the Olivares clan.

She dragged him to Ultionis, the Lord Captain’s headquarters in the Expanse, and forced him to put his numerological and criminal skills to work for the dynasty. When the Dread Necrontyr rose from their ageless sleep, Wilberforce found himself forced to assist in frontline logistics and even repel boarding actions. The conflict left him with deep mental scars, and he vowed to get as far from the Expanse as possible.

He managed to escape the tyranny of Aunt Abigale and exchange it for the pleasant decadence of Footfall. There, he met the Lady-Captain Krydiss, and in a fit of drunken lust proposed to her. Escaping a fate worse than death by a series of extraordinary deceptions, Wilberforce nonetheless found himself in the Lady Captain’s employment. After all, his family wouldn’t think to look for him there, and he could enjoy the hospitality of the Lady Captain for minimal work in return. Or, at least, that’s the plan...
