Commander Tarsis

Kendra Tarsis

"There's no time to be lying around, there's a whole universe out there waiting for us." (I would think this is relevant for first contact scenarios or when first encountering strange new phenomena)

Race: Betazoid

Rank: Commander

Branch: Command

Virtues:

Beauty 2

Courage 4

Cunning 3

Strength W

Prowess 3

Wisdom 2(+1 for race)=3

Aspects

Adventurous (can be described as rash or impulsive, tends to go head first into danger)

Invoke: When in unknown, potentially dangerous situations Compel: When faced with a choice between safer alternatives, Kendra will choose the riskier option every time. Betazoid telepath

Invoke: When reading the emotions or surface thoughts of an opponent would be useful. Compel: Since she was not raised amongst betazoids, and her parents, while well intentioned, were not fully equipped to give her the training she needs to filter out the mental 'noise' in a crowd. (a crowd being 10 or more people, excepting close friends and colleagues) Thus she is compelled to avoid crowded situations, as well as situations where unfocused telepathy/empathy would make her unpopular (such as a friendly poker match)

Prime Directive.

Invoke: When concealing ones identity and race on undeveloped planets. Compell: To abide by the local customs of a non-space-faring culture.

Gear

Kendra starts with a standard phaser sidearm and a communicator badge, which are normal items.

Background

Kendra is a betazoid who grew up on various starfleet installations. Her parents, Donic and Mirren Tarsis are both Starfleet officers (a security officer and a doctor, respectively) who met serving on board the USS Yamato. Seeking a more stable environment to raise kids, but unwilling to give up their careers entirely, her parents eventually settled on a federation space station, where they raised Kendra and her two siblings. In recent years they have been considering retirement to their native Betazed.

As a betazoid growing up amongst the various cultures of the federation, though mostly human oriented, Kendra has never felt a real connection with her cultural heritage, though her father often went to great lengths to introduce her to some of it. Her experience of it has mostly been negative, as her classmates have on occasion been paranoid that she was reading their minds or manipulating their thoughts. Such problems are rare in the enlightened federation, but it still happened on occasion.

It seemed obvious from an early age that she would join starfleet, as she was fiercely intelligent and had a great interest in exploration and adventure.

She was accepted into Starfleet, and did very well in her years there. Her take-charge attitude naturally led her to the red-shirted command path. After graduation her first assignment was the USS Kensington, where she eventually served as tactical officer.

She is now 27 years old and has just been promoted to the rank of commander, along with orders to report for duty on the USS Intrepid.

Appearance Kendra stands at a petite 5'2" and weighs a modest 105 pounds. What she lacks in physical strength however, she more than makes up for in spirit and determination. She's got a pale complexion, short blonde hair and the typical betazoid black eyes.

Trivia

When not on duty, Kendra enjoys can often be found on the holodeck, she says she enjoys the 'quiet' in there. She particularly enjoys playing out holonovels based on the adventures of James Bond.

She enjoys small social gatherings with close friends, but is uncomfortable in large groups.

There is no hint of Kendra having been romantically involved with anyone (male or female) during her time in Starfleet. She is uncomfortable discussing this and says she prefers to focus on her career.

Deep down, she resents her betazoid talents, though she appreciates their blunt usefulness, she feels they have prevented her from forming close friendships and participating in life fully, as they tend to make people uncomfortable, and make her uncomfortable in crowds.
