Political structure[edit]

AFAIK, this is how things work for the Uldish:

  • if you're not a guild member, you're effectively a serf and have no rights; ie if you're not a guild member, you probably work for one
  • if you're a guild member, you are represented politically by your regional Guild authority. If you're a member of the Blacksmiths in Rauf's Gift, your local guild representative is your immediate superior, your tax-collector, and your judge/jury/executioner for internal guild matters
  • when Guilds come into conflict, local-level disputes (Tanners are dumping waste into the river, which affects the Brewers' trade!) are resolved by the mayor, who is appointed by the Senate (or Council, can't remember) in Uldholm. At the level of interceding with the mayor, your guild representative stops being judge/jury and becomes your lawyer.
