This game will be a little different for a few reasons one of the most notably will be time management.

We will have a persistent time clock running. One day in our life will be equivalent to one day in the lives of our characters. But, one day a month (e.g. the last Saturday of every month). Time will be perfectly fluid. We, as all who are present, will spend our time together on Skype and work through our world as quickly or as slowly as we wish. I.e. if there is a war going on and we fight a chaotic battle. The fight itself may only last a few minutes in the game, but it might take us the better part of our session. Or, inversely, if there are no smaller events taking place we may fast forward through a day, week, season, year, or even a generation. Once our session ends, the effects our final, and we return to one-day-to-one-day time.

The effects of a player missing a session are going to be varied, so i cannot anticipate what those will be; but it is possible that it could be the death of your character. I will do my best to make this not the case, and to mitigate out dire consequences of missing a session. But, thems the breaks.

What game play will look like between one player and the DM on the 1day/1day scale: Players can make requests of me, write journals for xp, write memories for xp, can retire a character, or can create a new character. So, say player "Abigail" is undergoing political intrigue with player "Tom". She plans for the demise of Tom's character on the 4th of november by sending an assassin to exact her terrible will upon him. I would then reply to Abigail to say you should hear back about the results of that venture in 10 to 14 days. If the assassin Abigail hired was crafty enough to make it past Tom's Guards, i would tell Tom that there is an event coming up for him in about a week. And attempt to schedule a time when he and i can sit and discuss the event (within a 5 day window, give or take depending on circumstances). If we cannot find a time for us to get together it is assumed that Tom slept through the assassination attempt, and his role in preventing his death is forfeit. Abigail would then learn of the success or failure of her mission sometime around the 16th based on all the factors.

What game play will look like between a small group of players and the DM on the 1day/1day scale: Small Group outings. Say that a group of characters has gotten together because it is their mission to kill a Sea Demon. This is usually not achievable by only one character, and it might be possible to be done with only two or three. So we would schedule a session for after the expedition would return. If no other players interfere with the group outing, then we would meet and retcon the time necessary up to the present day. So if Tom and Abigail put aside their differences to slay the beast, then place a request to go on a group outing on the 9th of November. I tell them it will probably take 12 days. So if there are no player interventions, we will meet on the 21st and replay the clock from the 9th of november to the 21st.
