Alani prevents the murder of the titular Golden Child, the crown princess Li of the fictional Asian country Sanan (more or less a Siam expy), by miscreants in the pay of her cousin Yan who wants the throne for herself. Alani takes Li into the jungle to keep her safe, and cat-and-mouses another group of thugs sent after them (the thugs think they're the cats in this scenario; they are wrong), before helping her return to Sanan and defeat Yan. The film ends with Li taking the throne and promising that Sanan will find a way to repay Alani for her service.
