Kate O'Mulligan[edit]

Mad Scientist Adventurer From The World Of Tomorrow[edit]

A twenty-something graduate of the Madame Curie Academy For Practitioners Of The Higher Sciences, Kate O'Mulligan hails from a world where if you have the imagination, the will, the scientific knowledge and most importantly, that slightest glint of madness in your eye, you can do almost anything with the power of SCIENCE!

Born to relatively mundane parents who lived in a small town in Ireland, it quickly became apparent that Kate possessed the glint after she used bits from an old tractor to build an anti-gravity gun, which she used to float an entire herd of cows in the air as a prank. On another occasion she managed to create a mutagenic serum from a child's first chemistry set which caused the family dog to turn bright green and grow to the size of an elephant before going on a rampage through town chasing the post van. After hearing about this the Academy quickly offered her parents a place to send her to hone her scientific skills, making them both very proud of her and also quite relieved to have her as far away from them as possible.

Throughout her scientific career Kate has tried to distinguish herself by being more ambitious and more willing to push the limits of what's possible than her peers, sometimes being successful like with her Chronospatial Transfabricator or her Quantum Certifier both of which have earned her widespread acclaim. And sometimes it turns out a disaster, like when she tried to demonstrate her Hygienation Field Generator in front of the packed Assembly of the Most Esteemed Masters of Science. Although the device, which was supposed to remove dirt from clothing keeping it fresh and clean worked as intended in a laboratory setting, when Kate turned up the power so that the field would cover the entire Assembly building she didn't realise it would strengthen it's effects, turning it into an anti-fabric bomb. The results were, as one can imagine, quite scandalous.

Although this incident led to Kate being banned from making any presentations to the Assembly for a five year period, she has nonetheless continued to explore the boundaries of science, both in the physical and literal sense. She was a member of the famous Professor Alastair Screw's rocketship expedition to Mars where they established first contact with the green-skinned natives and has on more than one occasion found herself drawn into the political manoeuvrings of the mad scientist aristocrats who dominate Europe. It is lucky, then, that she was just preparing for a scientific excursion the day she found pulled between dimensions...

Distinctions [edit]

Mad Scientist Extraordinaire [edit]

Kate comes from a world where Mad Science is a widely practised art, and she both more scientifically knowledgeable and also a little madder than most. She likes to find ways to use the power of SCIENCE to solve any problem.

Experimental: Results are rarely predictable. Add a to the pool; if the roll fails, gain a complication.
Hinder: Gain 1 plot point when you roll a instead of a to represent your distinction in a high stakes action.

If I Can Imagine It I Can Invent It [edit]

Kate is a genius inventor, and can design and create nearly any kind of gadget imaginable. Whether the gadget works is another question.

Gadgeteer: Spend a PP to create a asset for the rest of the scene.
Hinder: Gain 1 plot point when you roll a instead of a to represent your distinction in a high stakes action.

Called To Adventure [edit]

Hinder: Gain 1 plot point when you roll a instead of a to represent your distinction in a high stakes action.

Abilities [edit]

Scientific Analysis (Comprehension) [edit]

Descriptor: Intuition
SFX: Spend a PP to instantly comprehend how a supernatural phenomenon functions.
Limit: Gain a Distracted complication if you don't immediately stop and use this ability on something new and interesting.

Omni-Ray (Transmutate) [edit]

Descriptor: Super-Science energy projection/manipulation gun
SFX: Spend a PP to create a hole or doorway in a wall or other obstruction.
