Margill Company Mine on Jiangyin collapsed when laser drilling compromised an undetected pocket of methane, trapping 17 miners over a hundred feet down under an unstable multi-level layer of stone and earth and detritus.
Contact with the miners has not yet been established, and the condition and number of the survivors is unknown.
