Delta Green: The Borellus Connection: Vietnam Era Loadouts
Vietnam Era Loadouts
The following are standard US loadouts for operations during the Vietnam War. They will give some idea of equipment and capabilities available.
Standard Loadout The following gear is standard issue or otherwise in common use for Marines in the field in Vietnam in 1968. Marine GMCs or Agents in Operation JADE PHOENIX or ALONSO can be assumed to be carrying this equipment without a Preparedness test. Most of it hangs off their Load-Bearing Equipment (LBE) “web gear,” in pouches or harness clips, some of it rests in their haversack. Army gear is similar. For civilian Agents, having this gear stashed in a rucksack or backpack might require a Preparedness test with a Difficulty of 4 or 5 (for explosives or weapons). Ammunition pouches (three 20-round 5.56mm magazines) Bayonet (d+0, d+1 fixed to rifle) and scabbard Blanket C-rations (canned) Canteen (or two) and cup Cartridge belt Claymore mine [L2*] Cigarette lighter, pack of smokes Compass Dog tags Electrician’s tape Entrenching tool (short shovel) (d+0) First aid kit including field dressing and morphine syrette Flare launcher (M127 single-shot, white parachute flare; FoDG, p. 139) Fragmentation grenades (two, M26 or M67 [L1*]) Halzone water purification tablets Helmet (-3 armor vs. bullets [head only]) Insect repellent Ka-bar fighting knife (d–1) M16A1 5.56mm assault rifle (d+0 [L1 on full auto]) and bipod (+1 to Firearms roll) M1911A1 Colt .45 automatic pistol (d+1) (officers and NCOs only) Machete (d+0) Mess kit and pan Mosquito net Pocket knife Poncho Shaving gear and toothbrush Smoke grenade (M18; FoDG, p. 141) Sleeping bag and air mattress Socks, extra (also useful for muffling gear, storing small items, etc) Tent shelter half, tent pins Towel White phosphorus grenade (M34, +1 Difficulty to throw; FoDG, p. 108) Wristwatch For extra grenades, ammo magazines, etc. each point of margin on the Preparedness roll adds one additional grenade or magazine. Thus, military Agents have their Preparedness total result in grenades, since they ordinarily wouldn’t have to roll for one or two grenades
