Vietnam Era Loadouts

The following are standard US loadouts for operations during the Vietnam War. They will give some idea of equipment and capabilities available. Standard Loadout The following gear is standard issue or otherwise in common use for Marines in the field in Vietnam in 1968\. Marine GMCs or Agents in Operation JADE PHOENIX or ALONSO can be assumed to be carrying this equipment without a Preparedness test. Most of it hangs off their Load-Bearing Equipment (LBE) “web gear,” in pouches or harness clips, some of it rests in their haversack. Army gear is similar. For civilian Agents, having this gear stashed in a rucksack or backpack might require a Preparedness test with a Difficulty of 4 or 5 (for explosives or weapons). Fragmentation grenades (two, M26 or M67 [L1*])

Halzone water purification tablets Helmet (-3 armor vs. bullets [head only]) Insect repellent

Ka-bar fighting knife (d–1)

M16A1 5.56mm assault rifle (d+0 [L1 on full auto]) and bipod (+1 to Firearms roll)

M1911A1 Colt .45 automatic pistol (d+1) (officers and NCOs only)

Machete (d+0) Mess kit and pan Mosquito net Pocket knife Poncho

Shaving gear and toothbrush

Smoke grenade (M18; FoDG, p. 141)

Sleeping bag and air mattress

Socks, extra (also useful for muffling gear, storing small items, etc)
