People come to Ragnhall to escape the darkness, the dreariness, the bleak fucking cold. For a few hours they get songs and dance and they get to be the gods of their own stories. Sure, there's some food and drink to be had, but the main feature is the crew of dancers, singers, and actors who bring the stories to life, with enthusiastic and welcome audience participation.

'''Camo''' is a welcome guest. He mostly keeps to himself without being unfriendly, and he's helped defuse potential situations more than once.

'''Ba''', on the other hand, I'd kick out if that wouldn't set a bad precedent. She's an attention hog, she's loud, and the fucking ''drama''. But as long as she pays and doesn't kill anyone, well, gotta keep the place open. Lotta mouths to feed. But now I owe her and I've promised to not get on her case.

'''Rolf''' is pushing on "investing", saying we should "expand" and all that shit. I think he just wants in my pants, but the way he flirts with everyone? Who the fuck knows.

'''Gams''' helped me get this place up and going. It used to be just a hot spring shack with a rickety bar and less savory entertainment. Bumpers tried to "recruit" us, and, well, he's dead now. Gams and her shotgun helped me make everyone see how that was for the best. Needless to say she never needs to pay.

'''Been''' has these crazy ideas about steam power and piped hot water and shit. He doesn't realize that no entertainment means no settlement. He's mostly been quiet since me and the crew had a serious talk with him about how he should stop fucking digging fucking holes to divert the water or maybe he'd dig too deep a hole and wouldn't find his way out of it, but I know he hasn't given up. I've fought for what I have; I'm not giving it up on a dream.

'''Bucket''' sits by the door and make sure nobody gets in who shouldn't, mostly because they've made an ass of themselves before or they're too drunk. He's fat and friendly and doesn't have a bad word for anyone, but he'll stomp your face if you hassle anyone.

'''Helga''' handles the performers - rehearsals, costumes, all the practical crap I don't have time for. She's serious about her craft and, well, everything else. She keeps to herself and I don't think I've ever seen her smile.

'''Jinders''' is her opposite, always laughing and joking. She's not really on our staff since she travels most of the time, but she's been with us since we took out Bumpers. Mostly she picks up weird crap we can use for props and sometimes helps someone along who needs to get away from where they are and could fit in here.

'''Bits''' and '''Jenga''' are our stars. They're a package deal, inseparable, doing everything and everyone together except every few months when they get into a fight over something nobody else understands and one or both disappears for a week. But as long as they're in a good mood they're generous on stage, taking delight in helping the amateurs do their best.

Then there's the half a dozen or so helpers, choristers, dancers, musicians - all of Helga's little orphans. Most are young, all are broke. They get food and a cot and the heat of the spring, and they all get to work. I'm not running a charity here; everyone carries their own weight. Most move on after a few months or a year when they have their feet under them, or we kick them out for whoring or stealing or just being too goddamned broken to work. That's the fucking world.

Right now there's '''Babbers''', '''Oula''', '''Seven''', and '''Mill''' performing, '''Zeds''' doing repairs and general carrying and fetching, and '''Old Lars''' pouring booze and stoking the fires.
