Background: Ali was mostly trained on the job to a ship mechanic, programmer, engineer, jack of all trades. He even picked up some basic medicurgy in his years working on freighters. He had settled in with a crew he worked with regularly and they were sort of like a family, living, working, traveling together. This all came to an end when a faulty hydrogen cell burst in the ships reactor. The company had skimped on safety measures and bought fuel cells from a discount company that sold counterfeit or salvaged fuel cells with no maintenance or quality control. The safety systems failed and the whole crew died. Ali only survived because he was outside working on the hull repairs.

He was cleared of criminal charges, but let go. He hasn’t felt comfortable working the freighter circuit since and his reputation is ruined. He is also suffering from survivor’s guilt and has turned to religion to help him find a sense of purpose and understand why he was saved. He’s quiet and awkward around people, though he use to be more outgoing and enjoyed learning about various cultures he encountered while traveling trade routes.

Interactions with other characters (based on what I know):

Positive: Rashidi- Ali respects the preacher’s insight and is glad to have her along on this journey. Jibril- Ali is sympathetic to the oppression of those that are now manifesting gifts and thinks he is a good addition to this crew. Faisal- Ali knows he’s competent at his job and trusts him to lead the crew well. His tendency to let his mouth and his schemes to turn a quick Birr get ahead of his brain can be exasperating, but surely the Icons have put Ali there to build his patience and to pull Faisal out of the fire when things get too hot.

Neutral: Kef- He seems like a dangerous individual. Ali gives him a wide berth.

Negative:
