Motivation[edit]
Baldri's religious mother realized as he was growing up that he would have a hard go as a warrior or miner - he was uncoordinated and couldn't carry heavy loads of ore. She left him with the church and they inculcated an even stronger faith in him. He's going to take it into the uncharted depths with some companions and keep them safe from evil ghouls, taking a share of their spoils as offerings.
