Editing Beran

During one of these journeys, a pilgrimage of sorts, Beran led Euric through the Misty Mountains to where Euric asked to continue alone. In every case, Beran and his father had respected these wishes, but for some reason Beran felt uneasy. He waited for nearly two days, and when Euric did not return, Beran decided to track him, against the unwritten rules of the quest. It was a good thing he did, for Beran found Euric alive but in a stupor, and nearly frozen to death. What happened there on the mountain Beran does not know, but after Euric recovered he did not have the same changes come over him that other thanes had. Nevertheless, in gratefulness for saving his life, Euric gifted Beran a fine leather armor, with designs of knots and patterns carved and studded into it. Most incredibly, the armor was dyed crimson and purple, in just a few places to highlight the design's intricacies. It was more than a gift - it was also a title - Thane. Euric was granting lands to Beran's family, and in return the family pledged to serve Euric.

About a year ago Beran met a young lady of Dale, visiting Beorn with a company sent by Bard. Her name was Miriel, and she was the daughter of one of Bard's advisers. Beran was quickly impressed by her - humble yet articulate - beautiful yet down to earth - eager for adventure yet gentle. And though but an "uncultured" Beorning, Beran caught Miriel's attention as well - she took note of his ability to tell stories of his travels - of the mountains, the strange folk and things he'd seen (being only 23 she'd never traveled west of Mirkwood), and how well he seemed to know when to listen rather than to speak - he seemed like an unusual man. Most men she knew were wealthy or soldiers - and were either stoic and serious and never spoke, or were talkative and full of themselves, and only listened to those with riches or power. Beran too seemed to be able to read people unusually well. Though her company's time with Beorn was a mere week, it was enough for Beran and Miriel. They continued to visit one another - journeying across the Elf Path or north of Mirkwood to meet one another in Laketown, until just three months ago, when they decided they would be wed. Unfortunately, considering Miriel's position, it was not an easy matter for the two of them. They decided that Beran would not ask her father's permission until he had a proper dowry...and the fastest way to get that, figured Beran, was to find it, perhaps in a Goblin horde. The two see one another when they can, but know their time is not yet come.

Berangar only traveled as far as the Western side of the mountains, leaving Euric to continue to the Shire alone. He was to meet Euric again in 3 months, to accompany him home. Berangar turned back over the mountains and planned to come home for a time, but was captured by Orcs and perhaps even evil Men, and has not been seen since. Beran still believes he is alive, and has received permission from Beorn to temporarily step aside from his duties as a Thane and to seek his father, but with the expectation that he must go and meet Euric in two months in place of his father.
