Mack is technically a civilian, but most of the crew consider him part of the security team. Technically he only answers to the Captain and XO, but practically he makes a habit of lending himself where needed. Given his breadth of skills and his particular facility as a security officer and a field medic, he often finds himself assigned to away teams.
