Background and Notes

Sam is a hard case. Born in England he lived most of his youth in the rough Eastend of London. Where he learned to fight, steal and generally live on the wrong side of the law. When the Great War came he found himself in the Royal Navy. He was involved in several actions and in 1920 found himself being demobbed in Hong Kong. He remained in the area and saw the potential in smuggling just about anything. He has smuggled drugs, guns, food & booze. He has worked for the Triads, fought against them and now finds himself at an uneasy peace with them (they take a 10% cut of his profits). Recently he has built up a large gang but unfortunately they all died when his smuggling junk sank in a tropical storm, he was lucky to be rescued by Algie Carmichael. He has found himself plonked on the quay in Shanghai harbour with only the cash and belongings that are in his small rented apartment.
