She spent the first year within that, listening to radio, doing a bit scavenging etc. But then her neighbor died (old age) and turned. He was like a father to her and she had to shoot through his head. It was time to move on. 'Uncle' Carl's legacy was to teach her to shoot and maintain weaponry, also many survival skills.
