Background

Cedric was born the son of a village healer and an elven minstrel that had passed by - and continued on his way. Cedric grew up with his mother, listening to her teachings of healing, nature, and the power of life. But his mother was a herbalist and a midwife, not a priestess. And perhaps it was his elven blood calling to him, but Cedric started to entertain hopes of one day mastering the spells of Life. He started to feel connection to and fondness for Lathander, god of birth and renewal. Yet there were no temples close by where he could go to study, and the thought of traveling to the large cities of the south did not appeal to him. He preferred nature.

Then Cedric heard stories of the dwarven outposts in the north, and how they often had temples to gods. So once he was old enough, he undertook a pilgrimage. Not to the human cities, but to the dwarven lands.

Cedric was accepted to study in a dwarven temple to Lathander. There he picked up not just abilities of a cleric, but a fondness of drink, and the dwarven way of fighting in heavy armor. In fact, he excelled in it, learning to take blows not just on his shield but on the strongest parts of his armor. Since he was a lot taller than his sparring partners, they gave Cedric the name of Iron Oak. Liking the name, and with no family name of his own, he adopted it.
