Background

Alec Parsons made his money the old-fashioned way: he inherited it. Of course, a young, wealthy dabbler in the occult is easy prey for any Kindred looking for a sugar daddy, and Parthenia Edridge, a Ventrue of the Boston Carthians, took full advantage. Alec spent nearly ten years as Edridge's ghoul before dying senselessly under the gun of a coked-up, nervous money launderer's bodyguard. He was buried under what was supposed to become the concrete footing of a loft development, but a work stoppage gave one of Edridge's enemies time to administer the posthumous Embrace and wait for Alec to claw his way out of the ground.

The enemy in question, Chase Löwengrei, was a Mekhet of Boston's Ordo Dracul; he fostered Alec's grudges against Edridge, then drew him out about the skeletons in her closet. At the time, Alec was only too eager to assist, but now he suspects strongly that Löwengrei arranged the conditions that led to Alec's death, prompting both anger and reluctant admiration.

Alec fled Boston for Haldorf, where he readily ingratiated himself with the local Dragons. Someone has to pay the property taxes on the Academy, after all, and it isn't going to be the Kogaion.

Alec's skills and temperament make him half of a good troubleshooter: the trouble half, not the shooting half. He depends—depended—on other Dragons to solve any problems he uncovered while following the dragon's tail. As a result, while he gained a certain cachet within the Ordo Dracul, he never impressed Prince Bella or the other worthies of Haldorf's Elysia as a particularly responsible citizen.

It remains to be seen whether his investigations following the devastation of Haldorf will get him in deeper than he can survive.
