Conric is a human archivist in his early thirties, who currently lives a semi-retired life in his prestigious town house in Lattanis. Originally starting from humble stock, Conric was born to a family of farmers in Bittenbough and through tragedy and chance became an explorer and avid lore hunter. With time and training he became an accomplished historian and an expert on ancient Avalahd ruins and culture. He currently lives off the treasures he found on his adventures and is a patron of and frequent player in the Lattanis Opera Company.

Character Abilities[edit]

Conric is a scholar at heart, as well as a talented bard, using the power of music and his sharp mind to get himself out of trouble (irronically often led to that very trouble through the same said gifts). Unlike many bards that use raw magic to cheer on their companions, Conric follows the archivist path and rather than calling encouragements he makes suggestions, citing enemy weaknesses, and formulating strategies based on accounts of other explorers. In addition to this Conric's prestige has gained him membership with the Chroniclers, and because of this has a great deal of monetary backing when near cities in which the society has chapter houses.

Character Background[edit]

Conric Planter was born to a respectable farmer and his wife in the year 1023 CA in the town of Bittenbough. For most of his younger years he helped his family work their land, and though he showed little of the patience necessary for farming he was exceptional when it came time to sell the crops and purchase equipment, and showed a quick mind for numbers, so he helped in a more administrative role.

However, he was unsatisfied. Whenever the Harvest Fair came to Bittenbough, he would rush his work and try to listen to the stories told by travelers and minstrels. He wanted to leave and explore the world and learn everything that life would teach him. At first, his duty to his family prevented him from going and he tried to fill the void in his life in other ways. Coming from a family that was already musically inclined, Conric learned to sing at an early age, and was recognized throughout the community as a wonderful singer, and while he wasn’t the handsomest youth, women still seemed to adore him for his voice and his uncharacteristic eloquence.

Then tragedy befell the Planters. During one of the many Wars of Conquest, a horde of barbarians pillaged the farming community and in the confusion, Conric’s parents were killed along with dozens of others. Miraculously Conric came out of the confusion alive, managing even to take some of the family’s money with him, and fled south until he reached the coastal city of Dunland. While he lamented the loss of his parents Conric tried to make the best of it and spent what he had to enroll in a small but respectable bardic college, where he was given a rudimentary education and learned to hone his natural ability. When he finished his schooling Conric struck out and found that life as an adventurer was much harder than he’d anticipated. He wound up in Sandmark, broke and washing dishes in a tavern, as well as doing nightly performances for tips.

However, at this point Conric’s life took a change for the better. An adventuring party needed help. They had recently routed goblins out of an island stronghold that was believed to have been constructed by the Avaladh. Enthusiastic, Conric enlisted with them immediately and they found his magic especially helpful. Conric adventured with them for over a year and they actually restored the fortress to working order, using it as a base while they weathered multiple conflicts and cleared its depths of monsters and spirits.

Yet all good things must come to an end, and the group had a number of internal issues, with members fighting amongst each other and their leader. Conric finally grew weary of this and taking his cut of the party’s money, he struck out again, this time doing much better. With his gold he attended more prestigious universities and became an expert in multiple subjects.

He even served as mercenary for the various nobles that were trying to deal with the Barbarian issues in the Freedlands (where he first met the dwarf exile Brekhan). When that was finished he and Brekhan journeyed south and while travelling through Latenara, Conric found a city that he could truly call home, the Mother of Civilization, Lattanis. Here he found culture, learning and notoriety and joined an elite group of historians called the Chroniclers. He said goodbye to Brekhan and bought a townhouse where he currently resides, often giving performances with Lattanis Opera Company.
