[14:57] <~Anshu> "Deliberator Bright Snow, your return is most opportune. The former Scarlet Empress has been captured and wishes to address us before we pass judgement on her. I respectfully invite my fellow Deliberators to hold their thoughts until she has said her piece."

[14:57] <~Anshu> "Deliberator Bright Snow, your return is most opportune. The former Scarlet Empress has been captured and wishes to address us before we pass judgement on her. I respectfully invite my fellow Deliberators to hold their thoughts until she has said her piece."

[17:00] <Nomoe_Hideaki> It is a beautiful display of strength and he cannot help but approve of the gesture, even though he him isn't sure it was the best move strategically. But no matter, Hideaki is quick to adjust to a changed reality. */Welcome, Deliberator Bright Snow./*

[17:02] * Bright_Snow nods to Ziyad's greeting. "I shall do likewise then"

[17:02] * Shrike notes the arrival of Bright Snow with intererst - and approval in her eyes. ~There is time for directness and time for guile...directness has been chosen...wisely~ she thinks to herself

[17:03] <Bright_Snow> */ My thanks, Deliberator Nomoe Hideaki / More warmly / I have played at politics before after all not nearly with so much help though. /*

[17:05] * Bright_Snow gives a glance at both Li and Solitary Talon, quite demonstatably raising one pale eyebrow and challaging them to do something, anything at all.

[17:09] <Nomoe_Hideaki> */And played well. A beautifully executed fait accompli./* Of course, now it is the other side's move.

[17:12] <Bright_Snow> */ Pride /*

[17:15] <~Anshu> The murmurs die down at Ziyad's polite rebuke, and he nods to the Empress, who turns to look around at the assembled Celestials.

[17:16] <~Anshu> "Greetings, Deliberators. I know many of you consider me a hated enemy. I cannot blame you for that, for I have given you ample justification. But today I would address you not as an enemy, but as a potentially useful tool, if nothing else."

[17:20] <~Anshu> "I expect that I am to be executed, perhaps after a trial, perhaps not. This too I cannot blame you for. If our positions were reveresed, I would and have done exactly the same."

[17:21] <~Anshu> "Not only have I led forces in rebellion against you, but in exile I would continue to be a symbol to those forces, and the power I possess over those who bear my bloodline is a critical and fundamental weakness in your military. You cannot allow me to live for any great length of time."

[17:24] * Nomoe_Hideaki nods with appreciation. Her frank speech, unafraid of pointing out the logic of her own death, is worth a measure of respect. Of course it remains to be seen where she is going with this.

[17:26] * Bright_Snow eyes scan the audience, watching the crowd even as the Empress speaks gauging their reaction

[17:32] <Brazen_Sand> Brazen sits back and listens, feeling pity for the woman...but also remembering the ruthlessness of the Realm

[17:32] * Shrike keeps her eyes on the Empress, ready for her to try something.

[17:36] <~Anshu> "With that said, I believe that I can still be of use to Creation, and to you, in the time I have left. I would ask that I be permitted, under guard of course, to address Creation using the communication systems of the Sword of Creation, to announce my abdication and confirm you as my legitimate successors."

[17:37] <~Anshu> "And I ask that whether you sentence me today or after a public trial, allow me to die in service to Creation, not just as a condemned prisoner. Point me at some great threat you wish defeated, so that in death I can return to my first and greatest ambition - to protect Creation, no matter the cost."

[17:40] <Brazen_Sand> Brazen stood up. "I believe her."

[17:43] <~Anshu> In many of the spectators there is a grudging respect for the Empress. There is some cynicism, some whose enmity is too strong to feel anything else.

[17:46] * Shrike nods slightly, remaining quiet but willing to accept the Empress's story., ~Trust, but verify.~

[17:48] * Nomoe_Hideaki sits quietly, sympathetic to her request, but whether to grant it ... he is undecided yet.

[17:52] * Bright_Snow looks distainful and unconvinced.

[17:57] <~Anshu> Discussion breaks out again, SNow's arrival almost forgotten as the Deliberative digests the Empress's words.

[18:05] <~Anshu> After a short while, Anshu speaks. "I see no reason why the second request, at least, should not be granted. Though sentencing is usually an internal matter for the Ministry of Justice, under the circumstances I shall invite opinions from the rest of the Deliberative. Are there any objections to Kaida Vanida's second request?"

[18:06] <Shrike> "I have no objections to it, providing she is well-supervised"

[18:08] <Nomoe_Hideaki> "There are practical concerns to be addressed regarding the necessary Deliberative oversight and verification, but beyond that ... only that we should consider carefully the precedent we set here, or make very clear that none is being set."

[18:11] <Bright_Snow> "And why should we allow her an honourable death? She is a traitor to creation, by her own admission."

[18:13] <Shrike> "The fact that she is willing to admit it speaks volumes - at least to me."

[18:14] <Brazen_Sand> "Because if she speaks up, she'll at least get those Purists off our backs.

[18:15] <Brazen_Sand> Brazen pointed out.

[18:16] <Bright_Snow> "Not really, they will likely speak of Mind Control and mutter something about Anathema." Snow shrugs, "Those that fight us now, they either have lost too much in the change of the status quo or are zealots who will fight regardless of reality."

[18:17] <~Anshu> "We allow Abyssals to work with the Deliberative toward redemption. A few are even seated here today. Why should we not allow her to seek an honorable death as expiation for her crimes?"

[18:17] <Brazen_Sand> "But if the Scarlet Empress is supposed to be more powerful then Anathema, then how can she be controlled by us?"

[18:18] <Nomoe_Hideaki> "Let us not discuss the logic of misguided fanatics, it is pointless," Nomoe points out.

[18:19] <Bright_Snow> "Bec..." Snow pauses for a second considering various arguments, "A point well made." She sits back down, not noticing she had risen to speak as she once favoured doing.

[18:19] <Bright_Snow> Surrendering the floor, and withdrawing her argument

[18:20] <Brazen_Sand> "But the point, Deliberator Nomoe, is that if even a few of the more moderate members of the Purists are swayed, then the momentum within the movement will change."

[18:23] * Nomoe_Hideaki doesn't rise to answer, making a sweeping gesture instead to indicate he considers the discussion of little relevance to the matter at hand.

[18:31] <~Anshu> None can think of a substantive objection to the Empress's second request, but the first is met with adamant refusal to let the Empress ever set foot in the Sword of Creation again.

[18:36] <Brazen_Sand> Brazen just sat back down. He could only give his vote on it.

[18:36] <~Anshu> DSV speaks up with a possible compromise: "Perhaps she could be allowed to record a message, to be played later."

[18:37] <Brazen_Sand> Brazen nodded. That seemed reasonable.

[18:37] <Shrike> "That...could be acceptable.'

[18:38] <Brazen_Sand> "I believe that is a good compromise." Brazen stated.

[18:38] <Brazen_Sand> Putting his support behind the idea as his anima illustrated calming pictures of compromise and unity

[18:39] * Nomoe_Hideaki supports the position that the Empress be allowed to address the people, so long as her speech is carefully supervised to make sure it contains no information that 'is not required for the common man to know'

[18:39] <Nomoe_Hideaki> And of course she not step into the Sword of Creation itself.

[18:43] <~Anshu> After some more wheeling and dealing, a vote is called. The results are marginally in favor of allowing the Empress a heroic death, and to record a supervised message.

[18:44] <Brazen_Sand> Brazen is satisfied by this result
