The industrial revolution has left its mark on the planet: Railways bring people closer together, airships ply the skies, and mass-produced goods bring a new standard of living to an increasingly urban population. This progress comes at a great price, however, as global temperatures and sea levels rise. Soon crops begin to fail, coastal regions are inundated, and a wave of political unrest follows refugee populations.

Setting information will reflect the world in the year 1894, when rising temperatures have begun to plateau again after some thirty years of warming.

Geography

The physical geography of the post-deluge world is similar to our own, but there are changes worth noting both in the changed coastlines and the distribution of peoples.

Politics

The rising temperatures and sea levels cause growing instability as once-fertile coastal lands are submerged, crops fail amidst record temperatures, and large numbers of displaced people seek subsistance amidst rising ethnic unrest. Governments across the world adopt repressive stances toward personal liberties in an attempt to maintain order and secure political advantage.

Science and Technology

The confidence in science prompted by the technological developments of the industrial revolution were tempered by unanticipated ecological upsets. While technical innovation continued to refine the technologies of the age, pure science focused on planetary sciences driven by the pressing need to sense ecological trends. 77747186350221900647291
