Background

One of Henriette's early childhood memories was of her older sister, Anabelle, tying her up in a sack and tossing her into the ocean. Easily escaping, she simply thought this was a game that she and her sister played. It was not until a few years later that she learned her sister was in fact trying to kill her. There were some rather Byzantine family inheritance laws involved in Anabelle's repeated attempts at sororicide.

Eventually Anabelle realized that her younger sister not only excelled at escape artistry, but was a darn fine swimmer too. That was when she decided to hire a professional. Fortunately for Henriette she was well liked by the servants (it wold be hard not to considering Anabelle) and the old butler had once, in his younger days, been a soldier, and he took it upon himself to teach the young Henriette the fine art of defending herself, teaching her the noble and elegant art of the naginata.

Henriette, luckily for her, was a quick learner. She would survive the many attempts made by bully boys, duelists, assassins, and other who traded in violence.

Then Henriette's and Anabelle's grandmother died, and the question of inheritance became more immediate and Anabelle's attempts on Henriette's life became more dangerous to everyone, including Anabelle herself.

So Henriette chose to flee, taking up with lawless pirates, to disappear from her sister's attempts on her life. In time she realized that just maybe she might find enough treasure to placate Anabelle's greed and thus allow her to return to the life of a wealthy dilettante. For now she's the terror of the seas with her naginata and baby doll dresses.

Anabelle's had not given up, and there are still murders on Henriette's trail, and a price on her head, enough to interest any ner,do,well that might spot the young pirate.
