Epilogue: Five seconds later

Joshua: Holy—!

Rina snaps off the sound and turns to Nika.

Rina: So. Jail break?

Nika says nothing.

Kiera: Why is everyone lookin’ confused? No—horrified?
Joshua: Yeah. That would be the correct term.
Nika: (sighing) I’ll put out a feeler and see what I can find out.
Joshua: (to Rina) Do you want to explain it?
Rina: No. Absolutely not. Sorry. Not til I have more data.
Kiera: You were close to the President?

No. We weren’t. Not really.

Nika shakes off her shock and goes to the bridge to fire off some messages, including one to her sister back home on Boros, asking about how things are there. Nika also attempts to send a message out to Decatur in Blue Sun, hoping to find out what the situation is out there. Nika privately thinks that the assassination could be a cover for something else and Mike Carter is possibly a part of it. If Decatur is running an op, it’s not like they can admit it. It would blow everything wide open. But she’ll send that query, because Rina needs it.

Meanwhile, in the passenger lounge, the rest of the crew is dealing with the news as best they can. Rina’s wheels are already spinning.

Rina: Are we sure he’s dead?
Arden and Joshua together: Who?
Rina: You Ge.
Joshua: Well, we know what the Cortex tells us.
Rina: Oh, yeah. Like you believe everything you read on the Cortex.
Joshua: I’m not saying we believe what the Cortex is saying. I’m saying that what we know is what’s come from there. It’s the only decent information that we have right now. Until we see his dead body or the urned ashes of his dead body, we have no other way of knowing.

Joshua keeps his mouth shut on what he thinks of the personal ramifications of the news, knowing his view would be biased concerning Carter. Kiera looks up at Nika when she returns from the bridge, the doctor’s question visibly on her lips.

Kiera: Why would we rescue an assassin?
Nika: I refuse to raid the PDF or the Decatur to get Michael Cameron Carter's ass out of the fire. I will not do it. That’s my line in the sand.

The Captain has spoken. Then, to Rina:

Nika: I could send a message but there is no answer that we’ll get that will be of any help at all.
Rina: I know.
