Local Services - there is a pub (which does very good food) at the top of the bank overlooking it, but its a fair hike into town and an even further on to the nearest supermarket of any size. Plan to have all the food and drink you need for the period with you at the start or be prepared for an hour and a half round trip.

Report

From RabidBunny's report

Haven't used it for LARP but have now stayed there with another group for a long weekend in November for the past four years so know what its like. Not sure what the costs are like for accomodation(as its always included other things like food etc) but for three nights (with three big meals included in the price - you have to cook your own food) we pay around £80 so work back from that.

It is a fantastic venue, plenty of rooms and corridors for people to get lost in - I'll see if I can get contact details for you from some people I know. The surrounding area is very picturesque.

Be aware of a couple of things though;

Cleaning

depending on what you are doing it can take an absolute age to clean, make sure that you either have a very commited cleaning crew or can get everyone to give you a hand afterwards. This information goes double for the kitchen (which is deeply wonderful).

Cooking

the kitchen has a big AGA, but it can take an age to cook things. Almost all of the utensils and pots/pans/plates you'll need are already there. Depending on the size of your group be prepared for some people to spend all day in their if your cooking group meals.

Showers

they can be a bit tempremental so be sure to warn people, especially if you intend to use it during the colder months of the year. The kitchen can supply a constant stream of hot water for baths if it needs to however.

Cold

it gets bloody freezing. The first year I went there was frost on blankets when people woke up. Make sure everyone is aware of this, there are limited blankets already available but sleeping bags and additional pillows are necessary.

Local Services

there is a pub (which does very good food) at the top of the bank overlooking it, but its a fair hike into town and an even further on to the nearest supermarket of any size. Plan to have all the food and drink you need for the period with you at the start or be prepared for an hour and a half round trip.
