The Nathier Mounds are the remains of a people only know as the Nathier, who over 2800 years ago constructed various styles of earthen mounds for religious and ceremonial, burial, and elite residential purposes. This is only known by the scholarly efforts of an unnamed elven king whose kingdom covered much of the region before the expansion of humanity and the retreat of the elves to the Northern Growths.

In more recent times, the mounds were used as a staging area during the Allied-Tashar conflict. This was complicated by the prevalence of undead in the Mounds. Likewise, bandits that find that they are not safe enough in the Hernwood often will cut through the Nathier Mounds to lose pursuers, taking the risk that they will only find slow zombies and skeletons rather than more fearsome creatures in their travels.

Throughout the years, adventurers delve into the Mounds to seek out the rumored treasures, from ancient weapons of a bygone age to the hordes of gold and emeralds collected by the Nathier wizard-kings. Few have returned, but those who have bring great wealth and terrible stories of creature of shadow, underground complexes full of deadly traps and powerful spellcasting undead.
