Playbook Moves[edit]

The Mask
You wear a mask and hide your real identity. Choose what Label you try to embody while wearing your mask: Freak
Once per session, you can affirm either your heroic or secret identity to switch your Mundane with your mask's Label. When you reveal your secret identity to someonewho didn't know it already, mark potential.

Game Face
When you commit yourself to save someone or defeat a terrible enemy, mark a condition and take +1 ongoing to all rolls in direct pursuit of that goal. At the end of any scene in which you don’t make progress towards that goal, mark a condition. When you fulfill your goal, mark potential.

Mild-Mannered
When you try to use your civilian identity to deceive, trick, or slip past someone, roll + Mundane. On a hit they buy your facade. On a 7-9, choose one:
- you’re still under observation
- you leave something incriminating behind
- you’re forced to make a fool of yourself to sell it
On a miss, one of your civilian obligations rears its ugly head.

Obligations[edit]

Schoolwork, chess club, babysit younger brother

When time passes, roll + your Mundane to see how you’re managing your obligations. On a hit, things are going pretty well—you have an opportunity or advantage thanks to one of your obligations. On a 7-9, you’ve lapsed on one obligation, your choice. On a miss, you haven’t given your normal life anywhere near the attention it deserves; the GM chooses two obligations that are going to bite you in the butt.

Backstory[edit]

When did you first put on the mask?
About a year ago, when my powers first manifested. Literally - the first thing I did was cover myself in this... weird, yellow substance that I can apparently call up from somewhere and control with my mind.

Yeah, it's freaky.

Why do you keep a secret identity?
That's what you do, isn't it? When you're a hero? Besides, nobody would take me seriously if they knew it was boring ol' Ricky.

Who, outside the team, knows of your dual identity?
My little brother, Bobby. Do you know how hard it is to keep something secret from a twelve-year-old living in the same house?

Who thinks the worst of your masked identity?
Probably that Mr. Diamonds dude. It was one of my first nights out patrolling and I stumbled across him when he was about to rob a jewelry store and somehow I managed to stop him. He was really pissed off that he was foiled (that's the word, isn't it?) by some no-name noob even before anyone knew what he was doing.

Then there were a couple of times when I more or less accidentally stopped some things his thugs were doing, so now he thinks I've got it in for him, and honestly it's just been dumb luck.

Relationships[edit]

  • Sound Judgement of Externalities knew me from my civilian life first, though after putting grandma's dog out on the fire escape in the middle of the winter, Mom won't let her come visit anymore.
  • I refused to tell Invincible Sword Princess my secret identity when she asked. She's, like, cool and crazy. If she knew I'm just boring old Ricky...

Additional Information[edit]

Where did your superpowers come from?

No freakin' clue! Dad works at some office all day and Mom's a waitress. Gran-gran lives with us too, but I'm pretty sure she's too old to be a superhero. (Mom says she's too old to live on her own but she's still sharp as a tack. It makes the apartment a bit crowded, but she's funny and it's nice there's someone home when I get home from school.)

I haven't been bitten by a radioactive... I dunno, rubberband or anything, so... no clue.

But then this is Halcyon City. I could have been around a dozen superheroes on the way to school without even knowing about it, and weird things happen every day. Once when I was on the subway Doc Toc was chased through my car by Timekeeper, and one time we had to stay at a motel for a week because the Anarchemist had rigged some kind of gas bomb in a van down the street and they were worried it might have been leaking, but I don't know anything that's happened to me that hasn't happened to a hundred other people.

What about Bobby?
I try to tell him as little about it as possible, and it's not like I've been on tv or anything so he doesn't know much other than that I go out on patrol sometimes.

When he found out I actually tried talking to him like he was an adult, and I think it worked. Mom and Dad still treats him like he's just a kid, but he's growing up fast. I mean, for the most part he's just as annoying as he's ever been, but he's figuring out a lot of things about how the world really works too.

So yeah, I had a serious talk with him and I think he understood that it would put everyone in the family in danger if anyone knew. Er, and I also promised that if I ever meet Goldwheel I'll ask for her autograph for him. I told him she's out on the highways and not here in the city, but he made me promise.

Who takes Chess Club a liiiiiittle too seriously?
Millie Barton. Oh man. I'm an average player and I'm fine with that. Sometimes I get to be in the tournament team and sometimes not, and that's cool. I'm in it for the challenge and because when I play I don't have to think about anything else, but Millie... she's all about winning. She's a terribly sore loser and almost a worse winner, and she wins, like, a lot.
