Naomi's ancestors were chosen by the godness Amaterasu to protect the emperor and the land of japan against its many enemies, including the minion of her brother, Susanoo. When the time arrive for the previous Amaterasu to retire, Kusanagi, the legendary sword and all the power that come with it, is pass down to the next daughter of the family so that the tradition could continue from mother to daughter.
