Hybrid Techno-wizard Scout Airship Queen Liber[edit]

A fusion of techno-wizardy and aeronautical engineering, the scout airship is a rigid hydrogen airship capable of flying near-silently with a range limited only by the PPE of the crew or proximity to ley lines. Its electric motors are nearly silent and the entire surface is made up of a radar-absorbant material.

It is a lifting body design with four rear-facing electric engines, converted to run on magical energy, each independently charged, with power for internal systems provided by another magic-converted generator.

The airship has two decks, an upper crew deck containing the engine room, bridge and crew quarters and a lower cargo deck.

The cargo deck contains the main ballast tanks, water purification gear and hydrogen-cracking equipment. It has a rear-facing vehicle/cargo ramp to deploy vehicles or parachutists even in full-speed flight.

The wings each hold three hydrogen lift cells and secondary ballast tanks, all of which can be vented or filled to adjust lift and trim.

While it is full of inflammable hydrogen, scourge of airships in ancient times, the scout airship is equipped with techno-magic that renders it instantly immune to fire in an emergency, as well as flame and energy attacks.

Designed in part by Dr. Yoko Watanabe of Lazlo Magic University, the Queen Liber is first of its class, designed for long range recon and covert operations. It does not have the "impossible" lines of many ley-line vehicle, appearing to be a perfectly normal conventional airship.

Height 43 feet

Width 85 feet

Length 108 feet

Weight 43 tons

Cargo Capacity 22 tons. Cargo bay is 53 feet long, 30 feet wide, ramp 28 feet wide.

Power System: Magic-Converted Electrical Generator. One month endurance, requires 15 PPE Call Lightning to recharge

Speed

-Powered Flying - 100 MPH. Can hover, engines pivot to allow VTOL.

-Flying range: Mystically converted electric engines good for 1000 miles per charge, Rifts 1e p. 92

-Ley Line flying: 220 MPH, unlimited range while on ley line, as per TK flier, RUE p.136

-Water: The airship is watertight and buoyant, allowing for water landings. While floating on a ley line, it can use ley line propulsion to travel up to 50 MPH.

Techno-wizardry features: Impervious to Fire system. Magic aura protects the airship from all fire from magic and energy weapons (does no damage). 10 minutes per 5 PPE (or 10 ISP) pumped into vehicle. It can also work as an air conditioning system, keeping passengers cool and comfortable for 5 PPE every 2 hours. The system can be activated from many points throughout both decks of the airship, each one indicated by a large red button that a person can channel PPE through.

Sensors: Radar - Track up to 48 targets simultaneously at a 30 mile range Targeting computer - Assists in tracking and ID of enemy targets. Feeds from bridge to screens in all gun turrets. Radio - 500 mile long-range system and directional short range radio with 5 mile range. Also, 80db loudspeaker. Spotlights - 3, one on either side of the bridge, one above the cargo ramp. Range of 600 feet

Weapon Systems: 3 turrets, fore, aft (180 degree firing arc) and top (360 degree firing arc), each with NG-202 railgun, 1d4x10 damage burst, range 4000 feet

MDC by Location

  • Main Body 300 MDC
  • Bridge observation dome 50 MDC
  • Wings (2) 150 MDC
  • Hydrogen cells (3 per wing) 40 MDC (can only be targetted once the wing armor is gone or from inside)
  • Engines (2 per wing) 30 MDC (Each engine lost reduces powered flight speed by 25%)
  • Gun turrets (3, front, top, rear) 50 MDC

Doing 10 MDC to the hull or wings with a cutting weapon can allow a human-sized creature access to the interior.

Interior features, fore to aft.

B- Passenger/crew cabin *Each cabin is 10' by 10' with two bunks that fold flush against the wall when not in use.

C - Common room/mess

D - Head

E - Galley

F - Sickbay

G - Engine Room

H - Gun Turret

I – Hydrogen lift cell

J – Ballast tank
