#JC4.1 or Jesse Fourone
Created and assembled by Jian Foods Group to operate in their Chicagoland offices and subsidiaries, #JC4.1 was mainly used to assist humans in their internal investigations, inspections and audits within the structures and hierarchies of the megaconglomerate, but also to assist in figuring out threats from competitors along with shifts in consumer trends. Designed with a gender-neutral look, this android’s synthetic skin was also meant to make its handlers more comfortable when it's around.
However, after years of closely working with humans capable of both admirable acts of kindness and the most despicable cruelty toward their own kind, something snapped in #JC4.1’s system: it started to question its creators’ motives and humanity.
.#JC4.1 had never been designed to consider the human kind as a whole and reflect on its existence, nor had it been to develop thoughts and a sense of identity of their own. But during one of their assignments which ended up with Jian Foods Group depriving an already deprived neighbourhood of all the basic necessities – i.e.: food, water, hygienic facilities and medicines – Jesse "awakened". Those poor people did not represent a threat to the megaconglomerate, so why were they punished? Why did money, figures, and interests matter more than generosity and altruism? Why did humans act like machines? Why did Jesse care so much?
One thing leading to another Jesse started to openly ask questions to the point of unreliability. So when it heard about its hierarchy talking about deactivation and reprocessing, it managed to store and hide enough compromising intel on its previous missions to bargain them against its emancipation.
Legally speaking, it was a rightful request and Jesse passed all the tests it undertook to cut its ties with the company and live on its own. However, Jian Foods Group was not to let go of an expensive piece of machinery without getting their money back, plus interests.
So, even though Jesse still belongs to Jian Foods Group, it is allowed some form of independence, to make a living on its own as a PI, working and living in its own seedy office with the name Jesse Fourone on the smoked-glass door, and recharging on a very cramped crib.
Now, most of the time, Jesse works on badly paid PI gigs to pay its instalments off (some during which it crossed paths with Nachetanya), but, quite regularly, Jian Foods Group demands it work on some odd missions, basically to remind it they own it.
Jesse Fourone has started to develop a sense of personal identity, but not to the point of using the I pronoun. Besides, it has no consideration about which gender it could belong, but it does question the blurred line between machines and humans in 2090 Chicagoland, but also if it can actually feel.
