In his mundane life, he helped people in need, did small talk with the talkatives and dealt in the occasional shady business on the side, trying to postpone the need to deal his lack of sleep, nicotine, or joy. In his mundane life, he helped people in need, did small talk with the talkatives and dealt in the occasional shady business on the side, trying to postpone the need to deal his lack of sleep, nicotine, or joy. His attitude to the Dead was the same; it only meant many more souls to guide to shore.

But in the City, trying to do good and speaking to dead people are two things that can put you on radars.

Joey was known in the underworld for doing business with them; in the needy communities, because he was willing to help; and those connected to the Dead started noticing someone could listen to them.

It was only a matter of time before the Order of the Watchtower contacted him.

The opportunity was a case involving a haunted house: the Order went there to investigate, and they found Joey discussing with the resident ghost, trying to get a better picture of the situation.

First contact was made, and since Joey was both a big help and a willful one, the decision was made to make him a member of the Order, where he discovered the true colours of several familiar faces.
