Background: Central City lost its greatest heroes in the Final Crisis. The Flash -- all of them -- all those who rode the lightning and channeled the Speed Force -- led the Black Racer to Darkseid, helping to kill the mad god once and for all. But in so doing, they were forced to run beyond their limits, and they were all taken bodily into the Speed Force. For 16 years, there were no speedsters left on Earth. However, Central was still safe; Tim Drake, Red Robin, had left the ruins of Gotham and adopted Central City as his new protectorate.
Five years ago, though, lightning struck on a stormy night, and Kevin Williams, orphan of this new age, became the only known avatar of the Speed Force. Red Robin found the young speedster fairly quickly, and took him under his wing (as Drake put it, "I led a team with Impulse on it. Compared to that, training you shouldn't be that hard at all.") Kevin learned quickly, and was able to draw on an additional source of knowledge -- the Speed Force itself. Though the speedsters of the Heroic Age were unable to manifest, they could still communicate with Kevin, giving him the benefit of their knowledge when he called upon them.
Despite his powers and training, Kevin was seemingly unwilling to operate in the open for several years. After all, in Central City, the legacy of the Flash runs deep, and the young man was unsure whether he could live up to it. Now, though, as new heroes emerge, he is finally stepping out into this new age as the newest Fastest Man Alive. Whether he can handle the job, though, remains to be seen....

Complications

  • Motivation: Responsibility
    • Kevin has big shoes to fill; the Flash is a legacy stretching back nearly a century, and Kevin had no connection to it before he was chosen, seemingly at random. He isn't sure whether he can live up to the deeds of his predecessors, but he's going to do everything he can to do so.
  • Identity
    • Trained by one of Batman's proteges, Kevin learned to guard his secret identity very carefully.
  • Enemies
    • Most of the Flash's Rogues have not been seen since the Crisis. However, their whereabouts and status remain unknown, and the reappearance of a Flash could easily bring them back out from wherever they are now....
