Curious to the perhaps.less cared for areas she tries to wander further. She has a trump to get to her place so that shouldn't be an issue. But no place she knows has not a poorer side or shadier side. Not that she looks for trouble just to know where it is.

It is the capital of a masive shadow spanning empire so its not got a lot of crime. Most places have been cleaned or rebuilt. When she finds the harbor she learns is a 500 mile wide collection of harbor towns serving the entire planet as well as ships sailing out to places in the ocean with portals off into shadow

Quite impressed by the whole place, clean well maintained and seemingly prosperous. She strolls a moment along the harbor but not being a fan of open water and ships, she decides to go back. Perhaps she can find someone to listen to. She has to find out when and where lectures are given. And Fort has spoken of the library, so that os a must for her. Alex loves libraries

Finding the library towers isn't hard. With the exception of Samwell tarly. It isn't the Library of Amber but it has the same feel She knows her little draggon will make a place here

She'll take the white dragon Teague with her next time. This first time here she strolls along the shelves with books. Reading their spines. In the meantime searchjng for a free reading nook or spot. Alex first looks for something on history. Perhaps the curiosity of her mothers origin from this place makes her want to read it. If she find something on history Alex sits at a free spot and huddles up to read.

right. that reminds me. Its a quick read for her to figure out that her mom is the Dierdre from the connected Tosian worlds. She somehow survived Patternfall but was exiled when Koob came But the timeline somehow does not make sense for some reason The Black Road War is in 3000 in Amber, when the Tosa/York had it. the Devestation of Koob was 3499.

((Power of reading.)) Alex spends her day in the library studying finding references and learning about how things are connected. And how things don't make sense or do make sense. After the day of straining her eyes in books she notes for herself which books might hold more information she might find interesting. Or might help her. It would be a nice side project for her to study besides being busy becomming a Bard. When she puts the books back and stands she feels her stomach rumble so time to find food.

With such an emphasis on gardening for Food, indoor gardening, community eating she finds people offering food long before hitting the dining hall.

Then Alex chooses to eat out in the gardens. Instead of inside a dining hall. She feels it is not mandatory anyway. She accepts some food here and there and sits on a nice spot. Watching people. Sketching those she sees. Letting her surroundings inspire her. When she is done eating she'll stay on her spot for a bit. Humming some songs while drawing. Untill the light is to low to properly draw

There are many styles of cafeterias throughout the lower levels of the tower. Most dedicated to different regional foods. Lectures on those regions often are taught there. Some cafeteria are generally utilitarian. While alcohol is common in the cafeterias she learns that there are no official taverns or drinking halls in the tower.

If there is an interesting lecture going on in a cafeteria she'll sit in. Listen to the lecturer. Alex decides to male the first night not a late one and after a lecture and food she returns to her room. Via trump because, why not.

"Well, thats clever......." A thin man is sitting cross legged in the doorway, draped with the sheet. "Giitha said you had her sheet and was 10 floors up. THat makes you a student. I'm Jenks. 3rd School for life. I'm here to work a trade."

Alex looks st the man she nods "I'm Rubyn just started. And trade? What kind of trade?"

"I'm an oathbreaker, I'll tell you that up front. Not my damn fault but it happens. I broke an oath to Grog and his friken... anyway, i can't write anything down. If I write something the item bursts into flames. Now I'll get it fixed someday but till then I have classes. 3rd School is a lot of copying and writing. What I can do is carpentry. Stone work. Painting... I could have a door up tomarrow."

Alex nods. In the meantime she puts some food down for her 3 pseudodragons, while listenjng to Jenks. "So Jenks, you need someone to write and copy your schoolwork. And in the meantime you get me a door? How long for would you need my assistance? And wouldn't my position at school be affected by helping you? Mind you i don't say no... just want to have some more information before answering."

"I have about 6 papers to write. I'll say them out loud. 2 are in Ichilian. Do you speak Ichilian? You just got here i am told and its a 1st School language. I have two documents to copy. I'll read them. The librarians know about my curse. What'll I do? A door for sure. and I am open to some other stuff within reason. Im not building a Wendian Pleasure hall you know..."

Alex shakes her head "I do not know the language yet but i am a fast learner. So the librarians couldn't help you? " She looks around then pojnts to the small window. "Could you help fix that. Make it bigger more open so my dragons can fly in and out easier? "

"The Librarians will help you find a book, a scroll, a document, and they will certainly help you find a bottle of quaffing wine the drunk old frucks. None of them are above 10ths school because they all got stuck in Library Sciences. But they won't write a note or a scroll or certainly a paper for you no matter what. "

He nods. And walks to the wall, now that he has permission to enter. He takes a small hammer out and wraps the wall. "Want a window and a window seat? 2m wide and tall. , 1m deed. We can figure out the window later but have the top half able to open at least. These garrets get stifling hot in the summer. Door with a lock. I'll walk you over to the storage. They have a thousand years of tables and bunks and trunks and bedframes. Sure you can find furniture there. "

THe next day he brings up hammers and tools. He has also chalked an area on the ground, 12 floors below so people don;t ger hit with stuff he tosses out. He starts knocking things out, tossing things down. He then brings up carved wood trunk, with a bench. "Ok, in time I can build a 4mx3m balcony. But that will take a lot of work to build baack home before moving here. Till then, chest with a padded seat. Wood door opening half up, giving lots of breeze. Door with a lock on the front.

Alex aits at a little writing spot and starts to write in her very fine handwriting ((i imagine as a very skilled artist she has learned this as well)). The recited words. In the meantime she learns new things as well.

Alex diligently works on the writing. She looks at her white dragon now and then inviting him to her shoulder to read along. He loves to try and read of course. She keeps.up the writing as long as he speaks the words. And wants to stay busy with her room. Does Alex understand what she isnl writing down?

He smooths the walls and plasters them. Sitting and talking for her to write. He feeds the dragons bits of cheese and they start to like him despite being coarse. The subjest matter is about the differant types of winds and how they are generated. It sound like later books might talk about controling local wind. the second day he hangs the door. It fits, despite being a bit out of square. It hasa a simple locke

When the door hangs she make sure to bring some more food and drinsk inside her room. Apparently needing to invite and host for guests when a door is there. While he is busy hanging and fixing the door Alex of course writes. Assuming this work for him might take a while Alex will keep her promise and write what she can now for him.

He takes her to a huge storage area. He says its where everything in the cells of dead bards or bards who gave up cells gets tossed. There is a little bit of everything.

Alex picks a simple barrel like table few stools not chairs somethign she can easily stack away ina corner. A simple drawercabinet with a flat top that can also function as writing surface next to be storage. Something that can function to hold up her bed roll but also be a storage space. "This should do. More wouldn't fit anyway. Lets get the stuff up."

"It's how i suddenly appeared in my room while you were waiting there. We still.have to carry stuff just not as far." With tbat she turns takes out a trump but keeps it low enough so it will hopefully not show to clearly to Jenks what it is. She then focuses to open rhe trumpgate.

He looks.."Quite a trick...." He starts moving furniture in. He lets her possition things. It took him 3 days to do what looked like reasonably heavy labor. But he took breaks and brought food and cheese to do dictation.

without the second window. Call that an inset book shelf with a small dragon weyr. Throughtout the week it took to finish he went over and about. He inset a book case, paneled the floor. Built the window/ Mainly to keep taling for her to write. He also cut a small fireplace that he said is not typical but the wall was thin enough. After he is done and she is done he is delighted by the work. Wishes her well. Tells her that his 3rd floor will be available when he leaves. But with her card trick, a 12th floor is not bad. even if it can be cold

Alex thanks him as well for the marvelous work. And now this room is so wonderful she'll keep it. After the deal is all done and they go their own ways again. Alex feels she needs to be more active outside. First she renews her trump of her room. Then she locks her door and goes outside. Now the window is big enogh the dragons can come and go as they please. It is time for Alex to show her face more, sit in on lectures and listen to other bards play.

Gaitha keep showing up. She seems less threatened by Alex one evening a week later, after meeting a few people and attending a few lecture she has Gaitha and a couple othe 1st school girls enjoying hospitality though both brought extra bottles of wine and cheese to have Alex store them.

If it is not to excessive Alex will store some things for the girls. They girls and Gaitha are very much welcome when she is in her room. Alex will.make sure she has always food and wine on the table. Alex will also ask what their plans are at college, what directions they take. She tries not to be to motherlu, but she does care so more a sisterly care.

Opening the door is and elderly man in worn clothes. His fingertips black with in. His head bald and his beard white. Leaning in he says, "Little Sister, is there a chair i might use? I brought wine and it will go well with any cheese you have. I have no desire to disrupt your gathering but i thought it time we met." He has a book pouch with a key on one side of his belt. A pencil fit and knight on the other, he has leaned a walking stick outside he door. Looking to the girls, their eyes are wide is surprise.

Alex of course always polite and friendly, invites thebman in. "Please come in. " Seeing the reaction of the girls she is very curious now. Alex puts some more food in the table and an extra (selfmade) glass for the wine.

He steps in, putting three bottle on the table, dusty with age. "I am Alkien. A scribe. I was so interested in meeting you. I am afraid I have shocked your friends. Please ladies, uncork those so they can breath. I am afraid my job here has shocked your friends. The yellow is drinkable now. A pale mead." He says in Thari, "And there are things we can talk about while they pour."

She smiles at her friends "You know where all the stuff is." This time Alex looks shocked. In Thari she replies "I had not really expected to hear that language anytime soon here. What did you want to discuss?"

"I had not expected to feel the touch of the pattern. And the Greater one at that. I never moved that high.. Once i was Martin. But its been many ages since then. I have lived longer as Alkien then I ever did Martin. Still, I thought it important to regard you and let you know that if you are in need, I am at your service. I shall not interfere with you." He lays a coin with a hole on the table. Turning he gives a similar but smaller one to Gaitha and the two girls. They look at them wide eyed. "Keep a couple of those bottles stocked away for when we talk. For any time I can be of service. "

She can't help but chuckle. In Thari she says "I had not expected Martin would end up as a scribe. My apologies might seem rude but i try to place the Martin i know next to you. Though i know it doesn't work like that. There will always be differences. I thank you for your offer Alkien, and i appreciate the discretion. Just here to hopefully make it as a bard." She looks at the wine and the girls. In the common language she continues "We, well not really Gaitha she knows what she si doing. But the rest of us are trying to find our way here. "

He nods, "We all just have to make our way....It was pleasant to meet you ladies. 1st School is a good time to learn letters, lettering scribal arts. Come and let me teach you those and ill give you all the larger coins. A clean clear writing hand will make your life easier as a bard. " He nods and exits

There are lots of methods from formal group classes to one on one sessions. There are also lots of other ways like small groups and concert groups. A common way to make coin is setting out a hat in public parks, playing in taverns, joininig small oncert groups\

Her days will get a bit more structured. Alex will attend classes, lectures during the day, before dinner she'll spend a good time in the library reading up on several things. After dinner Alex and her dragons and perhaps now and the one of the other girls or all of them will play new material or improved material in the park.

At first being shocked to have forgotten her weapons but soon she enjoys the feeling she doesn't need them. She is not always needed to be readu to fight or hunt. She enjoys some less tense living. And as she enjoys that feeling more she feels more free to perform. If they don't like it she'll hear it anyway. Writing more new material for song and violin. Writing stories drawing pictures with it.

Its common for players to match up on occasion or more often. Gaitha likes dropping by Rubyn's spot to join her with piccolo. One day she asks is Alex can come with her? She is buying something and wants someone tall to make the seller not echeat her."

"Well, they deal in stolen goods. Ive brought them stuff over the years. I don't think they are gray guild..They have something i want but 6 gold rings is way too much for it 2 gp is good. Its broken and has no strings. But I need a big person to go with me.." SHe looks sad, "6 Gold rings is 600 rats... its taken years to get that much. People don't chip in for piccolo players but its all my hands can hold. Except for a kneife or a rat hook."

As they walk she says, "I Rat on the docks. A good fat rat brings a copper when cleaned. I then tan the hide over on Tannery row. 10 good rat hides go for a copper. It costs a lot to cover school costs. Over only brought them stuff when things were to good not to steal"

"Alright, so do you manage the costs for school that way or is it difficutl?" Alex realizes her luck, school being payed for her and she had no issues with getting stuff from somewhere. "And i won't tell of the other stuff. I get you need to make ends meet."

"They call me Dock Warden because ive been hunting rats for 3 years. I brought something to these guys that was worth enough to cover tuition my first year. Since then...its hard. Sometimes I go up to the Swells, the rich people area and pick a few pockets. I do that as tuition comes around"

"They walk. Schools are usually far apart. They travel from one to another. On the way they sing, they play, they tell the news. They work farms. They do anything really to make coin. Don't let how crowded the tower is make you think the whole city is bards. There are a lot of sailor bards. They sign on as sailors for trips all over the globe. Its good money but hard work. They sign on with merch guilds. Anyone except CHAD of course. They join churches. Ya do what you gotta do.

Eventually she takes Alex into a dark shop lit by dim glowing lights. ITs dusk. 3 disreputable figure sit about the shop. around is all kinds of junk. A pawn shop filled with pawned itens and stolen items. One laughs, "Its the Rat Girls! So is this your big sister? She the one skinning cats?" "Bastard... Hes Ruckus...He owns the place. Let me see my harp!!" The guy says, "Well, its my harp but we have had some interest in it. The price is 10 gold rings. " THe harp he hands her is much more beaten up then the picture and its missing strings. "NO!!! YOU SAID 6!!!!! AND THATS TOO many!!! i HAVE 6!!!!!! " Rukus says, "Sorry Rat Girl. Its 10 gold rings today. Say... How about we take the 4 gold rings off your sister here in trade. How about it big sister? "

Alex listens to the exchange between Giatha and Ruckus. She looks thr harp over and nods. "So for those 6 gold rings i of course assume you will be adding strings. Tuning it and of course fix the resonant box and the lacquer. Yes? A businessman like you can see that is only fair for such a price. But of course i have to first inspect the strings if they are not to dried up or moldy" For now ignoring the part of the trading Alex of bit.

The three laugh, "You must be the funny rat sister. If we did all that it would sell for 30. Its 10, as is." Gaitha said, "BUT YOU SAID I COULD HAVE IT!!!!!!!" A tear sounds in her yelling." Ruckus leans down toward her, "ITS 10 rings. So go killl some rats or steal something or get big sister to cover it.!!!" Gaitha looks arond wildly, her heart breaking, holding the harp in both hands. She whispers, "steal something......" She turns and bolts out the door. The fences look surprised then start laughing. One says, "Get her!" Two large rotwielers eleap out from under the table chasing Gaitha into the street.

Seeing Giatha screaming and nearly crying she feels, sorry for Giatha her desperation and anger towards the men. When the Rottweilers are send after Giatha she turns and runs after her. Alex can handle Rottweilers but she fears Giatha might not. Sprinting as fast as she can to catch up to Giatha. Alex her plan is to take both Rottweilers their scruff in hand and pull them down and out of Giatha her way. Letting Giatha escape.

She can easily grab a pair of dogs, She is holdign them casually as she eturns to see the three fences rungin, knives in both hands

Alex walks back with the two rottweilers in hand. She tells the dogs sharply to sit. Emphasize on the hard sounds. Looking st the fencers she shakes her head. "You will leave this be. I have returned you your dogs. Those knives will not help you. It will only end in tears and some doctor bills. Which surely will become more then the outrageous profit you just lost." If the dogs sot and remain sitting she'll lettl their scruffs go and pet their heads gently. ((Still an animal person)) "Trust me. It is not worth it."

Hopefully they react to the hard sounds if not then she commands them again with a touch of psyche Alexandra Dejana Mira Alex stands ready for the man to attack. She waits till he is close enough to not be able and switch tactics. Alex sidesteps to the man's left making it harder to stab with the right. And as she steps she does a well placed punch in the side and an elbow to the left kidney.

Ruckus, having human stats, crumples to the ground. his companions stop suddenly, having a lifetime of running into seriously trained warriors. They stay back, slipping knives into thier sheathes

Alex doesn't act further either. She points to the dogs and Ruckus. Hoping she hasn't killed him. "You took a gamble and lost, take them back and leave it be."

Alex looks at the dogs, then back at where the guys left to. She sighs. "Well i live in a small room but we'll make it work i guess." If her dragons are around her she introduces them to the dogs. "And please play nice." Alex returns to the tower. Hoping to dind Giatha and talk to her. Alex is now curious why this harp is so important to her to risk her life on it.

She finds Gaitha in her tiny chamber. Having seen it once she had not visited again. Despite having a window seat it is little more then a 2 m across and 2 m deep. It has her bed set up in the window a tiny chair and table. It has a elong small trunk. It is dark but run down. She sits in hte windoe seat grasping the harp to her chest when Alxe finds her. "Please don't hate me....I'm sorrry.... so sorrry.. I just ...they keep changing the price... its so... so much rat blood just to get what i have..No one pays to hear the piccolo ...I'm sooo sorry Rubyn....I'll understand if you hate me just don't take my harp away...please...." SHe continues to whimper and plead

Alex tells the dogs to wait in the corridor she then enters the the room carefully. A sisterly smile on her face. She kneels down near Giatha. "I get your frustration, i will not take the harp away. It is yours. " She lays a hand on Giatha's shoulder. "I do not hate you, i am not angry. I am however, worried. The first time i saw you, you were carrying that door.you had found. Fixing it in place. I saw a strong young lady fending for herself. It was stupid of me not to ask further about you. " She sits down on the ground near Giatha. They they said someone broke the strings but i know they did it...5 silver rings.. 6 silver and 7 copper... no matter how much i gave them they kept raising the price... They have 2 goldrings worth of my rat money.. I stole things for them because they said they would smash it to pieces if i didn't.. " SHe whimpers. "Then today.... not just 6.... Promise me. Leave those guys be. They are still very upset. And i'm sure Ruckus will as well when he ever wakes up. " Alex carefully and gently wipes away Giatha's tears. "Don't be sorry, they drove you to a breaking point. Assuming they could keep using you, they miscalculated the fact you have a protective sister." Alex winks. She then stands. "I have to go to my room for a moment. Stay here i think your new friend will.keep you company. May i have the harp for a moment? You will get it back."

She gives it to Alex, afraid she will give it back to the fences. She bets the dog's head as it climbs into the window bed with her.

Alex nods and smiles. "Be back in a bit." To the dog she says "Keep her warm and safe." With the other dog and her dragons and harp in hand she trumps up to her room. Making sure the door is closed she calls for Akgleax. With the hope she can reach her from here, and in the calling making clear she has a potential deal to make

Moments pass and a second and third call is made. Then a sparkling light begins and a chuckle. Moments later she begins appearing.. "Alexander!! mY FRIEND!!! What a surprise!!!"\

But the young lady felt such joy playing it when it had still strings. I want to make it right for her. And who else to ask then you." "Could you make it better? She looks it over...."Its Beloved. Hmmmm.,... There are a few problems but nothing some glue couldn't fix. Nothing structural. I can feel its owner...I can give you sandpaper, buffing wax. And in a few days strings. Silver ones and gut strings, It will take its Beloved to restore it the right way."

Alex nods "That is the girl who i ask your help for. Her name is Giatha. She is downstairs a few floors. Oh and to answer that last question, we're at the bardic college in Wall. Is that a problem?"

Alex nods "Oh before we leave my room. There is someone intereted in meeting you as well. Fortunadus. He, she, should be here." Alex then unlocks the door. "Oh i go by Rubyn here." She then opens the door. "Lets meet Giatha i'm sure she will be an eager student to learn to restore her harp."

Gaitha is sitting with the rotwieler weeping when Alex and Akgleax enter her room. She looks up at the harp in Akgleax's hand. She stands. Akgleax walks up and kneels, "Is this yours? ITs a very pretty harp. My name is Akgleax. I am an expert worksman and can help repair and restore it. Have you seen Alex's Blue Violin? I made that. I dont want to 3judst do it, i wannt to show you how t do it. Would you like that?" Gaitha looks wide eyed to Alex. "Really?"

Alex smiles and nods "Yes Gaitha, if you want to learn from someone Akgleax is the best, she has the greatest love for music, bit like you. She can and will help you. If you accept" She then looks at Akgleax, "Lets keep my name Rubyn for now okey? It's how i'm registered here." Alex calls her blue violin to hand, Gaitha has seen it before but to put emphasis on the great workmanship of Akgleax.

ALex inclines her head to Akgleax. And gives a wave to Gaitha "Then i will leave you to do what you do best, thank you again i am so grateful you are willing to help this young one filled with love for music. " Alex raises a sisterly finger "Gaitha, listen well to Akgleax, and don't forget to feed the dog, he seems to taken a liking to you." With that Alex leaves with the other dog and her dragons in tow, to probably play some music in the park.
